Importance Of Participation Backwards In Today's Society

n today's society it has become acceptable and even expected that all kids receive trophies in activities. Some believe that participation trophies would help the other kids feel better and less discouraged. However the effects of participation trophies are terrible. It teaches kids that everyone deserves a trophy despite behavior or effort. It also takes away from the core of why kids should be playing sports in the first place. Finally it diminishes and value of a trophy and the effort of the kids who deserve the trophies. My vote is a no for whether or not kids should get a trophy for showing up. The "no winners, no losers" mindset is detrimental.

The first reason I disagree with participation trophies is because we can’t reward kids who don’t embody what the sport is about. As much as sports are about developing physical skills and talents from it, there is also another side. Sports are also about learning lessons. Sports teach kids skills like sportsmanship, teamwork, good attitudes, responsibility
As I was saying before, it would be ideal that every kid played a sport just for the love of the game, it’s not that way. Some kids are motivated by receiving awards. If everyone gets a trophy they don’t mean as much so the kids who are trying their best and deserve acknowledgement feel discouraged. It undermines the extra efforts of the players who are showing up, working hard, and doing what they are supposed to. The fact of the matter is you’re going to be compared to people around you your entire life. Teaching them that they all deserve the same reward for different effort is unrealistic. If someone excels at a job they will get promoted. Life is about competition and if we don’t teach kids that from a young age they are going to be shell shocked when they go out in the real world.
