I plan to promote community-driven development by working as a community advisor for an organization that provides microgrants and guidance to communities, specifically in rural areas. I will bridge the gap between the community leaders and the general population and give them the resources to create a unified vision, to write a proposal for a specific project to better the community, and to guide them through the implementation process. 2. Environmental injustices are too common in rural areas because many rural communities are not geographically or socially integrated. These communities are not helpless; they just need to be taught how to work together to create a happier, healthier community. As a stranger planning to enter a range of diverse communities and essentially teach them how to come together to create a change and then leave with the hope that they can continue to use the process on their own, I have to be trained in a variety of ways. To find the best way to temporarily join these communities on their journey to discovering specific problems and solutions, I mostly study sociology to help me better understand what factors to assess when I’m helping a community. Because I plan to focus on mostly rural communities, I also focus on classes and activities with an environmental focus. Food access, farming practices, and the agricultural economy are some of the many important factors that I need to consider when thinking of the needs of a community. Going forward with my education, I hope to take education classes to learn better techniques for providing materials and information without creating a dependence.
