Intersectionalcrip Reflection
Reflection 11

#Intersectionalcrips was associated with the Disability intersectionality summit but also became something of a response to Disability too white which was created by a Vilissa Thompson that adressed the fact that Disability representation in the media academia government and the non profit sector is over whelming white, straight,is, (often) males so #intersectionalcrips became a way to call attention to and amplify, the ways in which people with multiple marginalized identities experienced disability and how those intersect with their identities.

A guy on twitter he wrote his point of view #intersectionalcrip he said that his point of view does not include his own experience as queer disabled person but also (more importantly he thinks) amplifying the experiences an work of disabled activists of color. From a pragmatic point of view, he said that he would really like it if he hashtag #Intersectionalcrips & #Disabilitytoowhie were to get through to some of the large disability & influenced them to be more inclusive with hiring & representation.

I read that a woman named Sandy had done an interview and she describes intersectionality as

I spoke with Cuffee about your class and I thank you for your concern about him. I will be checking on him periodically, and monitoring his progress by checking in with you. However, at this moment in time, we cannot adjust his schedule because that would be removing him from his least restrictive environment because History Co-Lab is not listed as one of his special education services. I suggest that we give him a trial run, maybe until the first unit test or maybe the first interim which is October 4th, and we can see how he is doing, and should we need to schedule a meeting to make this change necessary then we can do that. I will also check in with his parents and let them know your concerns, and maybe they can step in as reinforcement.…

    SIM Paper Reflection

Overall, a lot has changed since for me since the first SIM paper. I remember being so scared and daunted by how you described the assignments. But as we progressed further through the course, it became easier. But while it was easier, I still faced a lot of challenges as the semester progressed. I started to get overwhelmed with other classes, which began to take a toll on me. I started to fall behind in tasks and was not able to turn in big assignments on time. I felt more capable of doing a SIM paper at the end of the semester, but it was a lot more stressful. The MGR assignments were ones that forced me outside of my comfort zone and helped me grow a deeper sense of humility. They forced to think more in-depth on issues and made me really…

Intersectionality as a concept was introduced to feminist theory in order to deal with the various forms of interrelated classes such as disability, race/ethnicity, religion, gender and social class (Shaw, Chan and McMahon, 2012:83). Furthermore, intersectionality was defined by Kimberle Crenshaw (1999) in trying to understand the various oppressions of race/ethnicity, gender and social class as experienced by African women. Wendell (1996:70) is of the opinion that living with a disability is not the same for all individuals with disabilities because disabilities are differently experienced. Thus, living with a similar disability is different for women from different race/ethnicity, social class and age groups. Wendell (1996:71) writes that…

I liked that Alaina used the sentence, "Intersectionality was a lived reality before it became a term." I think this is so important to recognize. Racism and sexism and all of its possible intersectionalities have been happening for years and was mostly ignored for a very long time.…

Some new information that I learned was that you have to be equal to others at all times and that you should know what you’re going to say. Also that you should do all of your work before presenting. My favorite part of these projects was presenting my civilization to others because I felt like my group did a great job. In the other project thinking of what food we were going to make if we won because who doesn’t like to think about what they’re going to eat? It’s okay to work in groups because you get more ideas quicker and it’s not always okay because some people like to argue a lot. I built through communication, collaboration, critical thinking, writing scripts/speeches, and my presenting skills/ delivering speeches…

Throughout my freshman college career, I was able to adapt to a new style of writing. Later on, the style of writing that I had learn had aided me with the transition of my Paper 2 to fit in my public argument in Project 3. Since this was a vital public argument, then it had to be shortened down and be extremely specific to illustrate its key points. By using these methods, I was able to easily format my research in order to produce a debatable argumentative speech for Project 3. Last but not least, the changes that were being made increased the overall effectiveness of my debatable argument, helped present my message stronger, plus it increased my rhetorical use of ethos, pathos, logos in Project 3.…

The simulation was a good exercise to practice team work in something more concrete than courses. It was very interesting to work as a team with people I did not know. The interactions were good, there was a good atmosphere and everybody was integrated. This experience allows me to feel good in a team; I know which place I can have. I think I can lead a group and I also can listen to the other. The simulation was also a good experience because we needed to think as real manager with results on the short and the long term. It was a little stressful but I felt above all exciting and involved in the simulation.…

The project implicit test I took was a new experience for me. I’ve never taken an assessment like that before. The test I took was on African Americans and Europeans Americans. I was nervous before I took the test because I was not sure or familiar with how the test was like. I read the first set of directions and did not get what I was supposed to do still. After reading more directions, I finally understood what I needed to do. The direction it gave me was to categorize things using the “E” and “I” keypad. One side had African and the other has European. The other categories were “bad” and “good”. I had to categorize pictures of people’s face, words, and virtues to which I think they belong. It was a fun test and I learned from it.…

During the teaching, I used open ended questions and questions and answers. I also gave the patient 4 handouts and highlighted the important discussion points and topics I discussed. I estimated that the process would take between 15-30 minutes depending on if the patient and her daughter had any questions. The whole process took about 20 minutes. I believe that the handouts were the best way to achieve my goals. The daughter was very happy that I had them, and was especially appreciative of the pictures that were in the handouts. I began by assessing the patients learning needs, learning deficits, factors affecting learning, and the learning environment. I turned the television down, but the patient would not let me turn it off. After my…

Introverts also like to create a harmonious atmosphere and prefer consensus to confrontation which can sometimes make them seem too laid back and indecisive. I agree with the results as I do tend to see myself as a laid back individual and sometimes display indecisive traits in my everyday decision making. My countertransferential (CT) reactions work effectively to help the patient improve his health. According to Counseling Today, “it is tempting for counselors, in an effort to create rapport with clients who are experiencing a profound loss, to reference their own losses and grief experiences, especially if they resemble the circumstances of the client’s loss... Counselors do use their past experiences to help clients get through their grief but not ordinarily by relating to the client the specific incidences or content of the counselor’s experiences. Rather the counselor’s experiences of loss inform the process and pathos of his or her empathy for the client’s specific losses” (2013).…
