Introduction to Counselling Skills
Day one was one of nerves mixed with anticipation. I already told myself not to have an expectation just to turn up openly and approach the course as I progress.
The introduction was as expected, Mrs/Miss Rachel Ellis, our tutor introduces herself then explain her she will like us to get to know each other for 10 minutes then talk about the person who just told you about them self. We were sat in a semi-circle towards the front of the class. It was a matter of just the person next to you in an anti-clock wise manner.
Sitting to my right was fellow student Catrine (CA1) happily married, two kids, employed and was on the course as a matter of exploring. As Catrine and I were the two last persons to introduce each other, we had the opportunity to listen and establish what background the other students/individuals and possible the “driving force” behind the course.
As expected it was a diverse, in reasons and profession, and this for me was a really good thing within. Although the reasoning was diverse due to the diversity of employment, not until the end I realize the goals were common. Everyone just wanted to reach out to others in some way.
This was made clear through communicating and relating to other members of the group conducting various exercises. Mainly, the points of reflection study/discussion sessions.
With all this said a few of the fundamental things I were reminded of/learnt of today was the important aspects confidentiality issues, especially in the training group. In addition I’m able to recognise the importance of building a relationship with others within our group. With these two, other members will be more expressive (openness) and therefore there will be more rewarding for all concerns. Finally, I can apply the study skills to reflect on my learning.
Session one (1) was exciting knowing there is a lot more to come is very exciting feeling the hunger to learn more.

I’m excited about starting this new classroom and nervous about starting my Master classes. The fact that I was able to complete a workshop prior to that class starting has taken a weight off my shoulders. The most important concepts I learned in this workshop are learning how to navigate in the New Classroom. I now know how to retrieve and post assignments, discuss my concerns, and post assignments to my learning team. I also learned how to post private messages to my professor. I also know the difference between OLS and the New Classroom.…

For week four I enjoyed a couple different aspects that were some what challenging. The Learning team assignment was about wireless technology and that particular area I am very familiar with. The two topics were smartphones and wireless routers. I have been using that technology for the past 10 years in a professional capacity and intimately know the benefits and risks associated with them. However something that I enjoyed and learned was about the six stages of the systems development life cycle. It was very interesting to learn how technology is brought to life from conception to practical use. It is important to know these stages that technology goes through so that we can appreciate what we have and can use it to correlate to any system not just a technological advance but an invention of any kind and the stages that you need to take to successfully get your idea launched into practical use or the marketplace. I am very familiar with PowerPoint and have exclusively used it for any of my presentations. However I was not aware of all the presentation tool available in the marketplace. If I ever made it to an executive level I would probably consider trying one of them but for my particular position PowerPoint is going to be my go to presentation tool. To conclude week 4 was fun and educational. I do not see immediate use for what I learned in week 4 but possible down the road in my career. My personal life will not implement any portion of anything I learned in week 4 because I cannot see a place for it.…

This was my first day with a new workshop group, so I was kind of nervous. Since this was the second day for this workshop to meet, it seemed everyone was already acquainted with each other. Although, we started the workshop with everyone giving a brief introduction about themselves. This made me feel a lot more comfortable and closer with the group. I learned a lot of interesting things about my new facilitators. Glen was born and raised from North Carolina. He described himself as a renaissance man; the way he introduced his lifestyle and hobbies to us that is the perfect way to describe him. Glen is passionate about the outdoors; surfing and hiking, and loves to remodel furniture. His favorite summer vacation was living the whole summer on the beach which he spent surfing, driving his jeep, and cutting meats at his deli. Super cool. Amber is very happily married. She loves cartoons and anime. Throughout the workshop, I noticed how passionate she takes her job. She seemed very kind and caring towards her students that was taking this workshop…

The most significant experience that occurred to during the past five weeks was in the first tutorial class. This was happened on 11th of September 2012 in the class B604. I was in a class of about twenty two students. The lecturer introduced us to the subject and told us about the assessments, later she mentioned that we have to work in a team of four to five individuals who we have not met before to observe a team and present the observations within the next eleven weeks to come. At this point I was very excited to start my work.…

My expectations upon arriving were very high. I was expecting to meet many new people from different parts of the world from many different cultures. The thought of expanding my knowledge with new material had me very excited as well. Handling the workload was going to rely solely on me, and me alone. I knew there wasn’t going to be anyone to blame but me for my own failure. So I expected there to be more challenging material introduced to me. I was really looking forward to taking courses with material I was familiar with. I was hoping to learn new things. With my schedule being more open, I figured I would have more time to focus on studying and my homework. That has worked out great.…

This article is based on students who participated in Seneca College Orientation. It was a big success because everyone learned so much about their courses and everyone had fun. This orientation was for new students attending Seneca College, there are different departments of studies that were introduced. First, the president of Seneca College, David Jones welcomed students by his speech then after that, the president had every student in every department come up on the stage so that he could personally welcome everyone and give the students a pin. Along with some of the board members, everyone shook hands and personally greeted each other a welcome aboard greeting. Everyone was amazed by the start of this formal ceremony. After the welcome greeting, the president introduced Ms. Erin Grant, Alumni and also the Valedictorian of her school year. She was thrilled to be called on to greet the new students. She shared some quotes to encourage the new students and told them not to worry about negative things because hard work is the key to success. It created a nice atmosphere among the students, because it took some pressure off their shoulders. After she delivered her lovely speech, the president and the board members left the gymnasium while the students remained in their seats waiting for their department of study to be called down so that they can meet with the faculty members so that they can discuss further details about the courses with their future students. The faculty discussed what the courses were about and what the expectations on each of them were. They gave out a lot of informations to help the students know what they are entering into. The discussion ended and everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch on Seneca grounds. It was an unforgettable Orientation day at Seneca.…

The first item on the routine was a lecture on English. I joined my class in room No. 51. It was S.M.’s English class, S.M being the initials for the professor’s name. The professor came with the attendance register. After finishing roll-call he delivered a short lecture on college-life. What impressed me most was the fluency with which he spoke. He advised us to take the maximum advantage of college-life.…
