Homosexuality is not a choice but a result. The morality of homosexuality is a topic that splits the advocates of homosexuality and the people who condemn homosexuality. Homosexuals and their advocates do not see homosexuality as being immoral or unethical and thus support it, while the people who condemn or discourage homosexuality see it as immoral and regard it as a negative aspect of social behaviour. sexual orientations. It is in their natures to prefer sexual relations with members of the same sex. Biological factors such as genetics play a substantial role in determining one's sexual orientation. While the developmental mechanisms are not yet fully understood, it is known that many homosexuals are attracted to members of the same sex by no choice of their own. It is therefore morally right for people to act in accordance with their nature, be it homosexual or heterosexual.
Secondly, research results have shown conclusively that homosexuals go through a fairly normal childhood and behave no differently from homosexuals.
According to author Shepherd, homosexuals come from all walks of life. Race or religious background is not an evident factor in determining an individual's sexual preference. Homosexuals do not have any special occupation, hobby, interest or engage in any particular activity that is specific to homosexuals other than the choice of the sex of their sexual partners. These factors above reaffirm the fact that homosexuals do not differ much with heterosexuals with regards to daily
life.
Finally, children raised by homosexual couples are virtually identical to those raised by heterosexuals. Homosexual couples often obtain children through means such as adoption and artificial insemination or from previous heterosexual relationships. Opposition towards homosexual couples often argue that having same-sex parents is not a optimum environment for growing up. However research has shown that children raised in a homosexual environment are equal to those raised in a heterosexual environment. The key factor in determining the normality of a child is the love and affection that the parents shower on the child and not the sexual preference of the parents.
In conclusion, although homosexuality is not a widely accepted form of social behaviour, homosexuality is not a psychological problem, a mental illness or a morality issue. Homosexuality can be a moral issue only to the extent that it is a matter of choice. And since homosexuality should be attributed to nature and not an individual's choice, homosexuality should not be regarded as immoral. The behaviour of homosexuals does not affect society in any negative way as homosexuals, other than their sexual preference, lead a life that does not differ from one that a heterosexual leads. What rights does one have to deem homosexuality as immoral or unethical on the basis that it is unorthodox? Civil rights provide individuals the freedom of choice and who are we, heterosexuals, to deny homosexuals the freedom to choose their sexual orientation or discriminate them due to their sexual preference, especially when homosexuality can be attributed to nature?
