In this paper we will be discussing different learning styles that were created based upon a persons’ answer to multiple different questions. Once the questions have been answered an automated quiz populates a specific learning style based on your answers.
My personal reason for seeking a college degree is to better my way of life and to obtain certain careers that are not available to a person without a college degree. I feel that a person should always be continuing to learn throughout their life because it will help them learn new tactics as well as to keep their brains functioning.
The first learning style quiz I took was The Center for New Discoveries in Learning, 2012. It was a fairly simple quiz with about 12 questions …show more content…
per page and four pages long. With this quiz a person has twelve sentences with a check box next to it, if you feel the statement applies to you then you select the box. Once complete the quiz populates your results. For me, my results show I am 28% visual learner, 44% auditory learner, and 28% kinesthetic learner. Since I am primarily an auditory learner according to this quiz, it means that I prefer to learn by listening and often recall the words I 've heard in my mind. If I am taking a written test, this tends to slow me down because I am speaking to myself as I read.
The second learning style quiz I took was the Learning Style Inventory, Bixler, 2010.
In the Learning Style Inventory quiz you are given 24 statements with three options to choose from. The first is if you seldom agree with the statement, the second is if you sometimes agree with the statement, and the third is if you often agree with the statement. Once you complete all 24 statements you then select the determine style button at the bottom of the quiz which then auto populates your specific learning style as determined by the way you answered the questions or statements. Based on the way I answered my statements I am a Visual Tactile learner. The definition of a Visual Tactile Learner as defined by the Learning Style Inventory is: If you are a VISUAL learner, then by all means be sure that you look at all study materials. Use charts, maps, filmstrips, notes and flashcards. Practice visualizing or picturing words/concepts in your head. Write out everything for frequent and quick visual review. If you are a TACTILE learner, trace words as you are saying them. Facts that must be learned should be written several times. Keep a supply of scratch paper for this purpose. Taking and keeping lecture notes will be very important. Make study
sheets.
After taking these two quizzes I feel that I am both of the learning styles combined, I feel that I am an auditory visual tactile learner. I have taken many classes in my life and I feel that I do my best at learning when I receive both auditory and visual instruction as well as when I physically put hands on such as writing notes or doing hands on projects. I have taken many tests such as these in my life and have been aware of my learning style for many years but it is still fascinating to see how different each test is.
In this paper we discussed the functionality and difference in two online learning style tests and I personally was able to see the difference in how each test perceives a person’s learning style just by answering a short number of questions. I was also able to brush up on my own personal learning styles.
