How Not Giving Up Gets People Things They Want A broken relationship rebuilt, that is what the speaker wants in this poem. The central purpose of Ed Sheeran’s “Lego House” is about him not giving up for what he wants, which in this case is a broken relationship rebuilt, and about how he wants forgiveness from the one he loves and is hopeful that he will get it. The speaker is talking to a woman about how he loves her and wants to be in a relationship with her, how everything that happened in the past was in the past and now they can have a better relationship together.
It is convincing that they have already been in a relationship before, but their relationship crumbled and broke which is why he said “I’m gonna pick up the pieces and build a lego house” (1).
The second part of that line is where the forgiveness and hope comes in, they must be broken up and he hopes that she would forgive him and give him another chance and let him rebuild their relationship again. That is also why he said “I think I love you better now” (10), if he was not in a relationship with her before and did not love her then how could he love her any different now? He must have loved her at sometime before to compare his love for her now versus his love for her then. In their old relationship they loved each other but he probably did not show it or appreciate it enough; he then realized how much he loved her and how he did not appreciate her or treat her good enough, so he has changed his love for her for the better. There is another line which says “I’m out of sight, I’m out of mind” (11), that comes back to them breaking up. That they broke up and she stopped making an effort to see him.
