many American citizens rather stay at home and do nothing. The draft would ensure that families all over the country will feel the burden of war, rather than a few families in some areas, ensuring that the burden is less on individuals. “Forty-two percent” of veterans would prefer having a draft, unlike the “fourteen percent” of the US civilian population that want a draft, shows that troops would have liked to have others carry the burden of war to ease it on the individual soldier. (Jones, 2007) Troops would also be boosted to the safety of having a greater fighting force by having confidence of not falling short in firepower.
Knowledge
The draft is also a great way to conscript higher knowledge citizens to lead our forces and outsmart enemy forces.
Unlike enemy forces like radical terrorist group or some local coalitions, our troops will be educated which is vital to have a modern and effective military force. Trained doctors can treat the wounded better. Educated engineers can help construct and fortify the military with new defenses and weapons to reduce casualties. Educated law students can help regulate right and wrong in the military by helping settle foreign issues in court. Although we don’t only need highly educated troops, such as WWII where a majority was short term education troops which actually assisted the war. (Moskos, 2000)
Rehabilitation
The draft can be a great way rehabilitate the country’s petty criminals to become better citizens. From the start of just training, all draftees and enlisted troops will be disciplined in training and will continue until they leave the military or better themselves. There experience in the military will not only help them learn multiple skills but it will also show them how fortunate they are. Being paid a stable salary will help these troops keep from crime and provided free education, they can even become greatly educated and better their lives.
Conclusion
Reinstating the draft will not only better the US but will also better the lives of many citizens to provide better life choices, an overall relief in war, and better educated troops.
