Annoying adverts, there have been so many over the years. Most of them are so annoying because of the catchy but irritating song; a great example of this is the WeBuyAnyCar.com advert (2010). There are many reasons why this advert is loathed by many, one being that when the viewer hears the song they can’t help but have it stuck in their head all day. I am one of those people and I can tell you it’s such a big annoyance, not just for yourself but others who hear you too.
Another reason why I loath this advert is because it is so cringe worthy. For example, the facial expressions of the main actor and also the dancing. The actor is a middle aged man yet he uses hand gestures and dances as if he was a teenager. It is embarrassing to watch, let alone actually be a part of. It makes the viewer just want to punch the actor through the TV. Most people, including me, are forced to mute the TV or change channel.
The advert is a perfect example of attempted humour gone completely wrong. Their aim was to show how they can transform the life of a news reporter from boring to exciting just by announcing their offer to ‘buy any car’. They had the target of making the audience laugh but the only reason why the viewers are laughing is because of the fact that it is such a cringe inducing advert.
The dancing is appalling, it’s random and looks messy which makes the advert look unprofessional and poorly planned. The dancers are jumping all over the place and go from one dance move to the next very quickly which makes the advert hard to understand, for those who might be interested in selling their car.
The lyrics of the song are also terrible. There’s a lot of repetition, especially of the website ‘webuyanycar.com’ and the word ‘any’. However, I understand that it is an advertising technique to permanently store the company name and website in the viewer’s mind, so when they may be selling their car or they know
