Multidisciplinary Team Scenarios
Thank you for responding and offering great information. We have a very involved multidisciplinary team at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. Our cardiovascular interventional staff, surgeons and wound care nurses are very attentive. They out way the pro’s and con’s to make good decisions. I can personally say I have not seen anything done without the veteran’s best interest in mind. We have had good outcomes. I do think the veterans benefit from receiving all their care in one place. The veterans have unique health issues and we are equipped to meet the special challenges they face because of their military history. Donna

In my opinion I think the VHA has not been doing enough for the Veterans they serve. I don’t think those the VHS are not serving our Veterans out of deliberate negligence on their part I believe that there is a lot red tap and bureaucracy involved I the services provide which may in turn tie the hands of the providers. In general I think its important understand how decision made at a legislative level may be directly effect how are being provide at a direct care level. I think the VHA is working to provide comprehensive care for their Veteran population. For example one area I see the VHA making strides in their services is having Women focused clinics. While womens focused health care with VHA started in 1988, in 2012 the program was modified…

Most veterans are using Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and relying on no-VHA providers as well, because of poor quality and access to the care. The dual usage makes difficult for VHA to ensure continuity of care, however, veterans in the majority of cases how no choice other than seek to help outside the VHA. As results of lingering concerns about inequities in access to quality, the VHA system now is under major media and political scrutiny.…

Resources utilized in the critical strategic plan enable an organization, such as a healthcare system like the VHA, to accomplish the actions essential to the needs of the organization. When the Administration of the VHA constructed a critical strategic plan, they fashioned three goals and seventeen objectives that is imperative to providing quality care to the veterans. Serving as a primary guide this strategic plan directs the use of planning, budgeting, performance management, and alignment of care across all components of the VA’s healthcare system. With these identifiable goals, the VHA Administration is able to keep the care consistent with the mission statement of the Veterans Affairs (VA): “Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being,” (VHA,…

One of the most meaningful health-related experiences I have had was the time I attended a multidisciplinary team meeting while shadowing an infectious disease pharmacist. In this meeting, various staff members attended such as nurses, specialists, and pharmacists to discuss the health of each patient. One patient at a time, they determined whether the patients were healthy enough to be discharged from the hospital. It made sense to me why this meeting was necessary as additional rooms are always needed for incoming patients. I observed how multiple factors were taken into account prior to discharging patients, and the difficulty that arose when discussing complex cases. Attending this meeting was meaningful to me in several aspects; it demonstrated…

It is true that veterans are the heroes of this country yet receive the least attention to their health. There should be a change in the government; before anyone is deployed out of the country to fight a war, he or she should be given a free house for them self or family. This is just from my observation. However, veterans always return home from deployment with some form of injury it could be physical, mental or emotional that is why nurse need to advocate for them. Health care is the next phase in a veteran’s life after they come back from war. It is important for the veterans to be treated as soon as possible for a better out com. As explained in Shiner (2012) Veterans needed to assess and treated immediately they return from a war…
