Personal Statement
I was exposed to the field of medicine at a very young age. Both of my parents are nurses, so I was fortunate enough to be able to come to work with them some days and experience firsthand how chaotic, yet cooperative the hospital floor truly is. One of the things I was the most fascinated about was the relationships my parents had with their patients. I quickly learned that it’s not only about taking care of your patients medically, but it also about establishing and maintaining a rapport …show more content…
Within those two years working as a CNA, I was able to make long lasting bonds with my patients. I was also able to experience firsthand the lack of compassion and respect between fellow nurses amongst themselves and the patients. One personal experience that I will never forget is a confrontation I had with my assigned nurse. When I received the acceptance letter in my email, I was elated. However, going back to school as a non-traditional student made me feel as if I may not be able to keep up or learn as quickly as my fellow colleagues. Contrary to my belief, I was able to remain on top of my classes all semester! I retook the two science courses that I needed and made an A in both classes. I was even asked by my professor to apply to be a lab assistant for microbiology. I had my mind focused, my finances secured and my sources at hand and was able to have a great summer semester and have my grades and TEAS score where I need them to be a competitive applicant. Because the application for this program requires an essay I am able to express everything I think it's important about my pursuit for nursing and my attachment to this
