My Favourite Place
The most inimitable place to be, besides in my husband’s arms, is Harrogate, Tennessee. The rolling hills, clean crisp air, and spaciousness all surpass the city life. The memories and joy I experience when I am there will always have a special place in my heart. My house resided in the country. A cow field was my backyard, and I would play hide and seek with my friends behind the hay bales. From the moment we got home and put our Bratz Doll backpacks down until the moment the pinkish, yellow sun was setting, my friends and I were always in a new adventure. At times, the golden rays would shine and radiate without a cloud in the sky. The gentle breeze was just enough to make it comfortable. The grass had already dried from the early morning dew, making it look freshly cut and greener than ever. As we would run around making up games to play, my black and white English Springer Spaniel, otherwise known as Bubba, would follow us eagerly with his wet teeming tongue hanging out of his parched mouth and his tail wagging like a hammer in an ongoing alarm clock. In Knoxville, the population and space is far too crowded to enjoy pleasures like those in Harrogate. In a way, it is suffocating here, and I miss the feeling of peace and contentment when at home. During winter season, it would snow fervently. My yard also consisted of a rather giant slope. Due to many hills and back roads that would get black ice very easily, school was called off frequently. My friends and I would get so excited and call each other to make plans to go sledding! I would jump in my thick, white leggings and blue nylon pants along with three pairs of socks and waterproof shoes. On top I would have two under shirts, two regular shirts, a small jacket, a large heavy jacket and a toboggan on. Layered and ready for the cold, I would run outside and find my aqua green plastic sled from underneath the back porch. It was crisp and cold outside, and the snow was a clean white ready to

When I was a little girl I use to always go to the park and while swinging I would imagine how much cooler it would be to live in a big city with lots of people and many things to see and experience. I never would have thought that at my age I would be sitting and relishing all the amazing times I had in my small home town. The family traditions, slow living and many childhood memories hold my heart in my hometown of Norfolk Nebraska. The boldly colored green grass, light brown cat tails lining the lake shore and fishing poles hanging off a dock all are vivid in my mind when thinking about the weekends I experienced in my adolescence.…

I moved to Knoxville TN recently from Boston MA, I came here alone not knowing anyone but my roommate who lived in Knoxville at the moment. My experience here has been a little bit on the boring and lonely side cause I don’t know anyone; I wasn’t aware that there weren’t sidewalks to walk on, the drivers who drive in TN wouldn’t mind running you off the road, unlike MA, people would atleast stop and let you go, MA has plenty of sidewalks to feel safe walking on. I soon learned I wasn’t practical about coming to TN; all I cared about was the beauty, the long hot summers and being able to relax. I didn’t do research I didn’t ask the right questions, and I now have to learn from what I am going through and if there’s a next time for travel I will make sure I do my research.…

I rush downstairs as fast as a five year old with snow pants a pink puffy jacket could. I put on my warmest socks that I packed and sit down on the couch so my mom can put on my snow boots. It’s 2007 and my parents decide to take us to our grandparents house in Vermont for our school vacation. We’re getting ready to go sledding on the Mount Snow golf course. Just an Average Snow Day

In grade school, snow days were the absolute best part of the winter months and living in Missouri promised at least a few per year. One particular day in third grade stands out in my mind as the best snow day of all. Any kid could tell you how a snow day begins; waking up at the regular time and groggily recalling the forecast from the night before, we would run to the window and peer out to see the blinding white sight of new snow covering the ground. This image could wake a grade schooler up faster than the smell of cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. After establishing that the forecast had been true I ran straight to my parents room where my brother was already flipping to the news channel. The anxiety waiting for our district to come up left us silent, and I can still feel the racing of my heart as the alphabet brought us closer to the verdict. PARKWAY read clear across the screen and we waited until it scrolled all the way to the top just to confirm we weren’t mistaken. And this was the beginning of the first snow day of the season; I could just feel it was going to be one to remember.…

When I was younger, I would maybe in the 3rd grade, one day we had a snow day from school my parents took my siblings and I to the hill to sled. My dad took me to the very top of the hill and had me scared out of my mind. I saw a lot of adults going down with no problem till they hit the bottom then ended up flipping over. So I sat back and watched some kids my age try and it at first they were crying a little bit saying the hill went too far down. Well some of the parents would get them to go by riding along with them so it wouldn’t be so scary. The first time down was always scary to us kids, but once we reached the bottom we always wanted to do it again.…

Rushing down a snow covered slope on wooden planks– that was my reflection of skiing. I never thought skiing to be anything more and I never ever dreamed sliding down the incline myself. Until, a holiday to US was planned in December 2009. It was my first experience with snow and it was close to midnight when the plane landed. After renting a four-wheel drive, my family and I made our way to a beautiful wooden lodge in Lake Tahoe. The sky was scattered with twinkling stars and the roadsides were layered with snow, my vision was limited due to the night sky, but the thought of seeing snow made me tingle in excitement.…

When the weather is hypothermic enough for a child or adult to begin to sled, it is nature’s indication that winter has begun. Sledding has always been a symbol of winter. Even with the technological advances sledding will always be symbolic of winter. From classic traditions of sitting in front of a roaring fire, to children and adults alike running out to feel the cold wind outside, turning their cheeks bright pink, sledding will always be a holiday event that is participated…

In June of last year, I figured out I was moving to Thompsons Station, Tennessee. I had one of the most stressful, irritating, and boring summers of my life. I had gotten taken out of my new school and I had to move into a new home away from all my friends. This temporary isolation from my real home in Franklin at first I thought couldn’t get any worse turned out to be a great life changing experience in my life.…
