My First Day At National Park College
Classmate Introduction Essay
You never really know what to expect your first day at a new college. You never quite know the people you’ll meet, or the overall vibe of the other students. I came to National Park College as a 28 year old. Recognizing that I’d more than likely be one of the oldest students in my classes, I didn’t really know how or if I would relate to the younger students (mostly 18 to 22 year olds). Would there be any commonality between myself and students around a decade younger? I’d soon find out.
The first day of my Composition II class the other students and I were given an assignment. Get into groups of three or four, introduce yourselves, and write an essay from the information you gathered. I found myself in a group

Haley is a seventeen year old from Hot Springs, Arkansas. When asked about her hobbies, the first thing Haley said was shopping. She said that she loves to shop for clothes, and that her favorite clothing store is Torrid. Torrid, a subsidiary of Hot Topic, is a retail clothing store focused on young women and teens. Another hobby of Haley’s is taking care of her twelve and ten year old nieces. She said that she enjoys taking them to the park on pretty days and also taking them shopping.
Although Haley is only seventeen, she is still quite accomplished. Haley graduated a year early from high school. As a homeschooled student, she received her diploma from a school out of Texas. Haley also takes pride in the fact that she is only one of two member of her family to ever go to college. The other family being her older brother who is still currently in college.
When asked about her goals, Haley told me that she wanted to graduate from NPC with a grade point average of 3.5. She still hasn’t determined what her major will be, but has plenty of time to figure that out. She also informed me that a long term goal of hers is to settle down and build a family after she completes school and finds herself a stable job. Haley does hope to have children someday, but isn’t quite sure how many she’d like to have

When asked about his hobbies, Tyler’s first response was that he enjoyed to read. He said that he reads a variety of genres, but that his favorite is science fiction. Tyler’s favorite book is Quarantine: The Loner written by Lex Thomas. Another hobby of Tyler’s is playing video game. When he is not reading, Tyler can be found in front of his television playing games like Mortal Combat, Call of Duty, and other role playing games.
Tyler, like many other eighteen year olds, has yet to accomplish a great deal. With that said, he has done more educationally in his eighteen years then I had. Tyler graduated high school from Lake Hamilton, and is now a freshman at National Park College. As a seemingly bright young guy, I’m sure that Mr. Helms has a long list of accomplishments to come.
Tyler’s ambition is clear when speaking of his goals. He let me know that he planned to graduate from college with at least a 3.0 GPA. Tyler hasn’t yet determined his exact major yet, but knows that in will be something in the realm of computer technology. After Tyler graduates, his goals is to move to California in order to find gainful employment and to spend time with friends that live

Duke’s current 14 coal ash ponds pose a great threat to the nearby public, and our local government isn’t doing much to stop it. A coal ash pond is a pit where coal ash (the remains of coal after it is burned) is stored. Duke has 14 in North Carolina. All 14 have been found to contain extremely dangerous chemicals such as arsenic, mercury, thallium and cadmium. Some of these coal ash ponds are placed next to public waterways and don't contain chemical resistant lining. This means these chemicals are leaking out into water, contaminating it.…

It’s easy to make a goal rather than to achieve it. However, with determination one can succeed in accomplishing it. I have accomplished one of many goals in my list and that's to attend college. In my family not a lot attended college or even finished high school, so accomplishing this goal is a big subject of matter to my family.Getting this far is even a big accomplishment in my eye’s, especially when you break free from an assembly line of generations that never had attended college. The feeling is still overwhelming, mainly because I’m the first of many generations in my family to accomplish something big like…
