My passion; Kpop
My passion - Korean Pop

I'm very passionate about music...but not just any type of music. KPOP.

What is Kpop?
K-pop, an abbreviation of Korean pop, is a musical genre originating in South Korea that is characterized by a wide variety of audiovisual elements.

Now that the boring bit's over...

How I did I become a Kpop fan?
Long story made short, I gained a interest in manga and anime when I first came to this school. After a short period of being obsessed over it, which I don't regret, I got in to Kpop. I was watching this lovely anime called "Blue Exorcist" when the credits came on. The song that was playing during the credits was in fact Jpop, but the group that made it was a Kpop group. I loved the song, learnt the dance, learnt the lyrics and soon enough that very song led me to where I am today.

So the song that was playing during the credits was by a boy group called 2PM. The song was in Japanese and called Ready for the take off. I know, awkward name, but I honestly don't care. In the beginning I was only thinking about 2PM, writing about 2PM, reading about 2PM. My whole life revolved around them. I hadn't really reached the stage where I listened to music from other groups.

That changed though when I was introduced to Super Junior. Super Junior are a 9 member, I think...I'm not sure, boy group. They debuted in two thousand and...five with their song "Miracle". Their popularity soared in 2009 though when they released their hit song "Sorry Sorry". I owe Super Junior a lot. They broadened my horizons.

That sounds awkward.

I listen to a lot of artists nowadays, but my favourties would be EXO, TVXQ and SHINee. TVXQ debuted as a five member group and unfortunately broke up in 2010; spliting in to a duo and trio. EXO is a twelve member group whom debuted in 2011 with their song History. SHINee is a five member group who debuted in 2008 with their song Replay.

And yes, I can tell the difference between each member and

    Music Appreciation

A few weeks ago I attended a recital/concert in the UMHB auditorium performed by the Waco orchestra (I think that’s who it was). At first when I got there, I wasn’t paying attention because I was bored and knew I was only there to get my fine arts experience credit. After about two songs, I remembered that I was in Music Appreciation and some of the songs they were playing, I heard in class before. I began to tune into to certain instruments and listen to their unique sound and what significant part they played in the song. I also began to realize that I was catching on to some of the patterns in the melody, for example ABBABBA. If I had never been in the music appreciation class I wouldn’t have done any of those things, but it’s just ironic that when you take a class like this, you find yourself paying attention to certain things in music that you never would have found yourself doing prior to the fact. One thing that really interested me was that in one song, a woman who was playing the trumpet had her own solo part. For one, I honestly didn’t expect her to be playing a trumpet, as bad as that sounds. Secondly, I didn’t expect her to be as good as she was. I was in shock at some of the notes she was hitting, and I admit that I was pretty impressed. I played the trombone in middle school so of course I had to watch the trombone players while reminiscing that I used to be the one up there doing that, I was pretty good. After not playing for so long, I forgot the notes and the certain places you slide the horn to make a certain note. Sometimes I wish that I could still play because I believe that being able to play an instrument is a beautiful talent. I would definitely go to another musical now because it’s fun when you’re there to listen and admire, instead of just being there because you have to. When you’re actually involved with the concert, it makes being there a lot more fun and makes you appreciate the work and practice that was done to…

Pop music, music of populace, originated in the UK and USA. Pop music is not a genre in itself, but merely the music targeting mass audiences. The History of popular music was not about social phenomenon, music was all that mattered and being least resistant (Gray, : 104). There were two types of American pop music. The first one being the angle of concentration, focusing on artistic and historical themes. The second being responsible for everything that was considered to be important as a reminder (Spaeth, : xiv). The difference between pop music of the beginning of the decade was live shows that were instrumental and structural and the end of the decade was very studio collective with minimal imagination as the music sound highly enhanced (Derogatis, Kot: 29). In the beginning of this decade, the trends of rock and roll was sustained from the 50s era. Middle 60s drugs became popular to improvise with music and so mellow psychedelic rock had developed. This counterculture was narrowed down to the younger generation which joined a three day hippie festival giving peace and love called Woodstock (Gray, : 104). Pop was known as music such as blues rock, jazz , folk and later in the decade genre’s such as bubble gum pop, heavy metal and psychedelic rock became more popular. A few popular artists were Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, The Beach boys, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd and many more. Pop music was considered a key to life itself and the history of a nation (Spaeth,:3) In 1966 a cultural change had taken place as the mop top era was over ride and the beardy years had begun (Wilson, 266)…

    My Interest in Music

My interest in music was well established at the age of 11 when I started to learn Harp. It all started one day during the music lesson in school, that I was impressed by this magnificent instrument and its reverberating, angelical sound. So I moved to first learn of the basic techniques and consequently deepen my study into the history and theory of Music, and afterwards joining a Harp Ensemble wanting to gain more experience playing the instrument. Since then, I got more opportunities to perform in front of an audience and motivating myself to continue to learn the techniques use to play harp. Among my most meaningful performances, I think the ‘Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Foundation Little Heroes Sharing The Love Concert’ has been the most worthy one because this concert in particular had the objective of raising funds to provide medical help to poor people in Africa, that cannot afford medications. In this occasion I felt the matter was not just about playing in concert but through the power of music I got to instrumentally help a cause. Besides that, at the age of 14, I began to learn the piano, and since strengthen my techniques at stroking the cords, the fluency of movement in my fingers and the expression I conveyed in the piece. The biggest challenge that I had to overcome was the fact that I was often compared to other students that were younger than me and more skilled than I was because of having learned the instrument at a younger age. Even so, I did not let this factor take me down or my passion for music because everyone has a different way to interpret a melody. I must say that practicing consistently everyday has been my winning card when I reached to further improve my technique. I did not let criticism get to my nerve but instead I empowered myself in front of my competitors and I think I have achieved a better perspective about music and how to use it. In three occasions, I was asked to compose three songs using the program Sibelius, which…
