My Work Ethic
Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or organization. Initially, the quality of leadership did not seem to be an important attribute to possess when I compared it to a strong work ethic, good character, or being selfless. In reality, being a leader is not a separate attribute, but rather a combination of work ethic, character, and selflessness because these smaller characteristics are what I believe creates a quality leader. These leadership skills can positively influence the performance of my sports teams, influence my community profoundly, and overall drive me in my attempt to make the world a better place. Work ethic, the principle that hard work is intrinsically virtuous or worthy of reward. Work ethic is a leadership skill that is foundational in everything from academics, sports and clubs, service opportunities, jobs and beyond. In each setting, hard work might look different but, as a leader taking the initiative and putting in that extra time is an attribute others can admire and will be inspired to follow. As a leader, I will continue to put in that extra time so that not only will I improve but, others will strive to follow my lead and succeed. …show more content…
This past summer I had the opportunity to be a leader through character as an employee of the Carlisle Summer Recreation program. In this job I was expected to lead kids through a variety of fun activities, such as bowling, jumping at Sky Zone and horseback riding. I was “looked up to” by many kids who regularly attended and my actions were constantly being watched and imitated. It was in these moments I realized not only was I responsible for keeping the kids safe and making sure they had fun, I was responsible for teaching them how to behave appropriately.
