National Honor Society Reflection
1. Throughout my high school career, I actively sought to be a part of the leadership programs at my school and beyond, by volunteering my summers to help with Wilderness Nature camp, working weekly at The Cat House, and volunteering around the community as often as I could. I was also a part of student council and NHS in school and was on the leadership teams of both organizations. For my school’s National Honor Society chapter, I was the Memorial Garden Chair, and planned many events to help improve the environment around my high school, from weekly clean ups to picking up trash all around the building to reduce the impact we had on our environment. During student council we worked very closely as a team throughout the year, in small groups, and as the council as a whole. It was though this organization that I was able to branch out and find a lot of great opportunities to help my community on a local and national scale. The first major event that I helped organized was our Thanksgiving project. Our small group decided that we wanted to organize a fundraiser for soldiers where we wrote letters and collected other supplies to send over seas. As the group leader I delegated each of the individuals to have a different job, but we all worked very closely together in order to accomplish our duties. One job was to advertise around school, another was to find business donations, and my main job was to communicate between the people in my group and the organization we were sending our letters and supplies to. We decided to write the letters during the Week of Veterans Day, so that we could send them to be delivered before Thanksgiving. In the end we were able to get the whole school involved and we were able to write hundreds of letters and gather other necessities to send in care packages like travel toothpastes and toothpicks. Being the first major project that I was in charge of has made this a great team building activity, because it showed me that no matter what, if I put enough hard work into a project and communicate effectively, I can get things accomplished in a
