National Honor Society Research Paper
Ever since my freshman year of high school, I’ve wanted to be a member of the National Honors Society. Being a part of the National Honors Society meant that I would have done well in both my studies and contributing time in my community. In order to reach my goal, I took multiple honors and AP classes to enhance my knowledge. These classes were indeed rigorous and there were many occurrences where I stayed up late doing homework or studying. During these times I felt like giving up, but the passion I had for conquering my goal burnt too brightly. The hard work I’ve placed on my studies has certainly paid off because now I’m at the top 5% in my class with a 3.8 GPA. Also throughout I’ve helped my community in multiple ways such as volunteering

Throughout my four years of high school, I have consistently pushed myself beyond my limits and comfort zones in attempt to discover my place in the world. I spent most of first two years discovering who I was as an individual, ultimately manifesting into inspiration for success. I grew out of “fitting in” and decided to turn my life and aspirations towards a greater direction; on this road of discovery, I separated myself from those who valued arrogance and indifference. “Nerd Squad” is what I am a part of today, which is why I am currently confident enough to apply for the National Honors Society Scholarship. I believe I have grown into a tenacious, sympathetic, and joyous young man that the entire school has seen develop, and I am honored…

One of the major drawbacks of the prestigious National Honor Society at my school is its system for accounting service points, required for every semester. It is very disorganized, and there is no way for students to keep track of their points, so many worthy members get probations or dismissed. So in my junior year, I decided to talk to the sponsor. I suggested that we make an official spreadsheet, accessible to every member, that has the names of each of the members of the club, and all the point opportunities presented throughout the year. I will make that spreadsheet and will update points at the end of every week. My sponsor really liked this idea. Immediately, the complaints from my peers ceased. The members were able to keep track of…

The public education system in the United States puts a greater emphasis on test scores and grades that it does actual learning. While around 80 percent of high school students graduate, most of them are not being prepared for what comes next. I have come to believe that there is more to education that a decent GPA, so I have tried to enrich myself with as much real-world experience as possible during my time in high school, while still trying to maintain my grades. My time in leadership positions, desire to work with other intellectual individuals, and rigorous academic goals all make me an exceptional candidate for the Honors College at East Carolina University.…

I entered school in August of 2009 and did not focus on my studies. After just one year my GPA was a 1.376, because I did not have the drive that I had in high school to succeed. After a couple of years away from Texas Christian University, while attending a 2-year college, I realized what I wanted to do with my life, sparking the motivation I had been searching for. I then decided to return to TCU and fix my awful GPA, which I managed to do with hard work, determination, and appropriate priorities. After one year of nonstop studying and focus, I have managed to raise my GPA to a 2.777, removing myself from academic probation and qualifying for opportunities I was not eligible before. This was difficult for me because I also work part-time…

Hello, my name is Shane Richardson. In Stranahan High School, I am a jack of all trades. I am currently the only sophomore taking Mr. Hale’s AP Calculus class, I have co founded the science club, and I play tennis outside of school. I think I would be an asset to the Honor Society because I am really organized. I know if you ever see my books in the hallway they are kind of a mess with papers but I know how to set up conferences, make lists, and organize events. I also never give up. In anything I do, I believe that if you start something you should see it through. One example of this is my calculus class. I started out the year not knowing anything about calculus. I didn’t even know what calculus (The study of change) was. I was really nervous about having my first AP math class and I was stressed out about the first quiz. I realized later that if I prepare well and I work my hardest I can succeed in anything.…

There are several goals I have set for myself in college; I aspire to make the dean's-list in all the years I attend college, I anticipate participating in a minimum of two organizations which can get me more absorbed in the community, and finally, I want to become involved with the student body, and attend as many school sponsored events as I can. In my junior year, when I heard I made the honor roll at my high school, I was overcome with a feeling of fulfillment. This was the first time I had made the honor roll and with this achievement was a feeling of pride for the work I put in, and for the way the work reflected in my grades. But, I stayed hungry and kept working to maintain this honor, and I finished on the honor role for the entirety…

I decided to apply to the Honors College because I am a student who loves to be challenged. At my current university, I am not enrolled in an honors program, or am taking honors level classes. The reason for this is that as an incoming freshman, I was anxious about what my college workload would be like, and chose not to apply to the honors program. This is a decision that I truly regret. I have really enjoyed the classes that I’m taking, but I don’t feel that I’m being challenged in any of them. I received a 4.0 GPA last semester, and was on the Dean’s List. While this was a huge honor, I did not feel…

I was recently honored by Kiwanis as being in the academic varsity in my class, having one of the ten best cumulative gpa’s in the school. I have balanced many extracurriculars while maintaining a weighted gpa of 4.6 and an unweighted gpa of 3.99. I have received an academic letter and been on the honor roll for all four years of high school, and earned the Academic Boosters award in social studies. Furthermore, I have received a number of scholarships in recognition of my efforts both from the community and from Universities. My academic achievement stems from a lifelong love of education that I have drawn upon countless times for strength and inspiration, especially during some of my more difficult classes such as AP Chemistry and IB Physics. My parents and teachers have always been so supportive of me, and my eagerness to learn paired with a phenomenal support system have allowed me to achieve all that I have thus…
