Summary:
A wife and her husband are facing difficulties in expanding their family. The mother seems to face some jealousy as other family members have children. She views others as taking advantage of the ability to have children. She is facing many emotions and is trying to find a way to deal with them. This woman has feelings of “resentment,self- pity, and sadness” (Hax 1) according to the article. She is also reaching out for advice because she feels alone. This correlates to many topics we have touched in class.
Relation to a Psychological Concept:
In chapter 4, we are introduced to the “Birth and the Newborn Baby: In the New World” (Rathus 55). We touch base on how …show more content…
If you are uneducated about the other options in the world you may feel like you have no option. We live in a highly developed world where we have access to many opportunities. If she knew before about the new techniques she may have been able to save eggs and have a …show more content…
We also talk about bonding in chapter 4. A relationship between a mother and child is crucial for development. So perhaps she feels that by adopting or having someone else bare her child she may not have that connection as she has had with her other children. Also during pregnancy many hormones are released that create this bond within the mother and the child. Therefore, she has little communication with the child being carried within someone else. I find this topic fascinating because this mother is dealing with self guilt over something she can not control and I feel as if she was more informed steps could have been taken to avoid the situation she is in currently. One can only imagine what she is going through and hopefully someone realizes how she feels.
Information That Would Help Provide a Context/Depth to the Article: I feel as though this article could have improved by speaking of the illness she is facing. I would like to know why it is causing her to not bare children and if she will ever be able to have children if the illness is cured. I also would have enjoyed a follow up on her story. I am also curious as to if she has spoken to anyone such as her doctor or spouse about what she is feeling inside.
