I have aspirations of one day owning and/or operating my own set of group homes. The audience that I would like to appeal to with these group home is yet to be determined, but I am aiming at either the field of individuals with intellectual disabilities developmental disabilities or something helping out the youth. Regardless of the direction I choose to take, I want to help people and improve the conditions of their lives. For the past five years, I have been working in the field of social services and have been working with the population of individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health issues. It has been a learning experience and I am taking it all in for the future when I decide to create my own. Over the course of my short career, I have served direct care to a home full of males, a co ed home with males and females, and as a one on one care giver to a young man. I have also had the opportunity to be a supervisor of a home to adults as well. I have seen and learned a lot, good and bad, but I know which things I want to take form this experience and what I want to improve. For this research paper I want to diagnose my previous experiences, list the things that I want to carry with me and change the things that I feel are lacking in this industry. Such things like employee dissatisfaction, high turnover rate, employee motivation and employee relations as a whole are things that I feel can be improved on in this field. The field of social service is geared to provide the best possible service possible for the clients served and at times I feel management forgets about the well being and happiness of the employees. This is something that can be addressed and fixed. In the future it is my duty to create my own brand using my past experiences and visions to be the best that it can be. This diagnosis paper
