Nurse Admission Essay

My desire to become a nurse evolves from past experiences that have taken place in my life. When I think of a nurse I think of someone who is attentive, sensitive to people’s needs and has a drive to address their patient needs in an utmost concerned manner. Nursing has always been my passion since I was a little girl. As I can remember, the first time I visited a hospital when my father was in the Intensive Critical Unit. My father was slowing dying and the nurses gave my brother and I permission to see him before he passed. However, I was impressed to see how the nurses were compassionate, understanding and sensitive to my father and family needs. Although I experienced a tragic loss in my life, this was the first time I thought of being a nurse. This moment in my life sparked my interest in becoming a nurse. One day, I know I will be that nurse saving someone's father or family member. Also, in November 2014 I was diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism, which was the most devastating experience. In my senior year, I had the privilege to do clinicals at local nursing homes, hospitals and veterinary clinics. My experience in the healthcare program, working in hospitals and nursing home settings have supported and confirm that I have what it takes to become a nurse. I have shadowed and participated in the care of patients in the nursing homes and hospitals by nurses. The compassion the nurses provide to their patients is not any kind of love but a special kind of love. I enjoyed the experience of shadowing nurses so much that I volunteered at the Lowman Home, a nursing home in my community during my spare time.
