Constant training takes its toll on muscles, joints and bones, and so a healthy diet can improve recovery from such strain, repair soft tissue, and assist the growth of muscle. Maintaining a healthy, well balanced diet provides a dancer with increased energy levels. Fuelling a dancer’s body with the correct foods will provide them with sustained energy throughout long rehearsals and performance periods. This means exhaustion and fatigue aren’t able to settle in until much later, allowing the dancer to perform to their maximum potential for longer periods of time. Dancing requires lots of energy, so dancers must consume enough calories to keep up with physical demands. Contrary to the common misconception that a dancer must restrict their food intake to maintain a slim figure, a dancer's diet should consist of a substantial balance of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals, and adequate fluids. Eating these whole foods is important as they are full of nutrients and antioxidants that help us stay healthy and fight the strain and wear on our bodies.
