America is the land of opportunity, so they say; but a country is made up of more than just opportunity. The land itself is made up of mountains, trees, lakes, and buildings. A country, however, is really made up of its people. It is the characteristics of the American people who make this country great. Characteristics of honesty, faith, and loyalty are the three defining qualities in a true American Citizen. People came to America and still come to find a better way of life. As it says in 1 Timothy 2:2, so “That we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” A hallmark quality of what all Americans strive for is honesty and integrity in their lives and dealings with others. Agreements were made
by a handshake; because your word was worth something because you were honest your reputation was impeccable. You’re yes means yes and you’re no means no. People can be counted on to be honest and trustworthy. People fled to the New World, America, to be able to have religious freedom. Faith has always been a fundamental part of the American life. Our country was founded on Biblical principals by godly men. American’s have faith in their government, knowing that they will be safe and taken care of as they get older. I feel faith is a strong characteristic in many individuals that show their unique capability to put their trust in our government. Even though government can have its downfalls, the democracy that we the American people enjoy protects us and our rights. “Our loyalties must transcend our race, our tribe, our class, and our nation; and this means we must develop a world perspective." said Martin Luther King, Jr. The ideal American is loyal to his country but always remains aware of the rest of the world and what is transpiring in other countries. American military personnel, an entire volunteer force, are loyal to our country. They believe in what America stands for and daily they put their lives on the line to defend our country.
America is the most unique country in the world, a melting pot of people from all nations that have, through the years, made America their home. And through the variety of people that have come and made America their home, the same three resounding qualities are apparent in all true Americans; honesty, faith, and loyalty. These qualities in our people are what have made our country great!
