Overcoming Obstacles
“If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it (Michael Jordan).” My life has been all about overcoming failure and just getting over obstacles no matter the difficulty. “It’s not how many times you fall that matters; it’s how many times you get up.” This quote sums up my life and how I have always been able to gain some sort of knowledge from every failure experience. I am from New Orleans, the city that is constantly being faced with overwhelming obstacles but we are a very resilient. I’ve always had an optimistic view on life and I believe it is because of how I was raised …show more content…

Failure comes with life and it’s something that we need in order to become better people in all aspects of our life. Failure teaches us life lessons that will help to shape us into better people so that in the future we don’t make the same mistakes, thus setting us up for more success. A time when I experienced failure in my life is when I was in the 7th grade. My favorite thing to do is play basketball because it’s a time when I can just have fun and not have to worry about anything else; it’s like breathing to me. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without basketball. When I was in the 7th grade I’d say I was a fairly good player and I was just improving each and every day. That was until I started playing for this certain coach. The coach didn’t like me because of my hair at the time and he believed that my hair was “raggedy,” so he benched me and was constantly telling me I wasn’t good enough to play basketball with these other kids. At that moment I had went from being a good player with all the confidence in the world to a mediocre player with very little confidence. I was hardly playing in our games if at

In my essay, I went over how I overcome failure on a daily basis, and how I made the best out of a bad situation. The quote, “When life gives you bad hops, make great plays,” describes the situation with my back injury. This is because when the injury occurred I didn’t get down on myself I turned it into an opportunity to try new things, and to have fun supporting my team. I also described how I overcome failure on a daily basis by keeping a positive…

My father always told me that nothing worth having comes easy. I carry these words close to my heart and they have driven me to challenge myself through life, especially in my STEM career. My major in the science field has been similar to riding a roller-coaster, but I have learned to overcome most of the obstacles I have faced along the way. No matter what situation brought me down, I remained positive and tried to think of solutions rather than giving up. Finally, in the last few months, many of my peers would mention that I am the type of person who is able to withstand obstacles and recover quickly.…

Failure, a part of life most people try to avoid as often as possible. It comes in many forms, scaling from missing a problem on a homework assignment to flunking out of a class. The word ‘Failure’ is seen so negatively most people hate to associate with it. A lack of success is one of those aspects of life that at first is upsetting, maybe even frustrating that ends up helping someone blossom. People learn from their defeats, learn to change and accept. Everyone has failures and part of life is getting over those failures and coming out stronger. Even I have experienced failures in the past that have significantly helped me out.…

Then, I noticed all the other boys on the team glaring at me; the stereotype in their head was being confirmed-- girls should stick to playing with their dolls and having tea parties. I saw the visiting team take the lead on the scoreboard as a result of my wimpiness. Wiping the tears away and coming to a realization, I decided I would never let that happen again. That was the first of many lessons learned from growing up playing sports.…

Failure is not something an individual can avoid. We all make mistakes because we are imperfect. Thus, we need to look at ways that help us overcome a situation we had failed at. According to “Rich in Thought: Not every Olympian Gets a Medal” by Richard Paloma, he states,” Mistakes are tools for learning- not indicators of poor ability” (paragraph 7). Whether it’s losing a soccer game, failing a test, or coming last in a race we all have failures. Three ways that I have made a mistake, but learned from it are failure’s on a school history final, the loss of my soccer game, and stealing from Target.…

My team and I were dominating each game with ease. I was confident and I felt as if i were invincible. This is the feeling that I worked so diligently for, the feeling of victory, the feeling of success. The team had went into the finals and this is where the true colors of the team had come out. The first finals game was a hard earned victory, we barely made it out. Second final game we couldn't hold on anymore, we lost, and all the hard work was all down into the drain. One wrong move, one mistake, A simple missed shot. I felt as if I wasn't able to be on this team so I had resigned; I had given up, and was disappointed in…

I was extremely nervous despite the fact that everyone had told me I was going to make varsity since I had done so well at camp. There were about 23 people trying out for varsity and only 18 could make it and so I had a good chance at making the team but that still did not calm my nerves. Before we went out to the brand new turf field for tryouts I was psyching myself out and was doubting myself in all ways possible. My hands were shaking, I was sweating, all while listening to the calm chatter of everyone else echoing loudly in the locker room. “You can’t make varsity; the others are just too good” I was telling myself. During tryouts the pace was fast, the humidity was high, and our spirits were just as high. We had to do lots of ball work and ball skills on the first day and I was messing up completely at times. At one point I screamed out in utter anger because I just could not get my feet to do the correct things. I was so angry with myself because I knew I could do better than what I had done that day. I went home feeling utterly defeated but ready for the next day because there were two days of tryouts. The next day I felt absolutely great and I was doing everything right! I was passing every drill while receiving complements from my coaches. I felt great and as I was walking up the big, blue steps to the locker room, I knew that I had done great at…

Then I tripped out of bounds. After that I threw a pass to the other team. After a while of doing really bad I thought no one would like me because I was bad. Eventually I didn’t think it could be any worse but then I got packed and turned the ball over right at the end of the 2nd quarter. Finally it was halftime, a time I could cool down and redeem myself. After 15 minutes of talking, the 3rd quarter started and I made five three pointers in a row. Then I crossed a kid up and then shot a layup. All of a sudden I was actually doing well after halftime. After the game ended a boy on my team came up to me and asked if I wanted to hangout sometime.…

Everyday people strive for perfection, but the truth is that no one will ever achieve it. Within every task, challenge or achievement, failure is present. Most fear the possibility of failure because weaknesses are brought out and people feel vulnerable. On the other hand I witnessed a learning aspect from failure, and have a new understanding of it. Varsity football was where I faced a large amount of failure, but in turn learned many lessons.…

In life, everyone will fail at something. Failure is defined as lack of success, or the inablitity to meet a goal. Failing, however, is not giving up. Failing is motivation to push yourself to your max potential. Winston Churchill once said “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” This quote has been the backbone to my drive and passion in playing basketball.…

Success is to achieve something that we truly long for. “Sometimes failure is more beneficial than success.” Written by Darren Roberts. This is a very inspiring quote for all species of mankind. I agree rightfully with this quote as it states that even sometimes there are ups and downs, falls and disruptions in life, but those problems make us even stronger and prevent us from making the same mistake and make us more successful in life. Although, if losing things sometimes make us closer to something we want, we must make a go for it. As In Homers’, The Odyssey, and Nancy’s’, The House of The Scorpion, the main characters deal with personal loss and face many hardships, but finally reach to their own respected homes and families, safe and soundly.…

For some people it takes forever to figure out that failure is not always a bad thing, while at the time it may seem like the end of the world. “We are all potentially capable of any human act.” (Roth 39). Even the most successful of people have failed at something at least once in their lives. Maybe consider though, that failure was what brought them back up to the best, hardest working person that they could be and it did not take long for them to retrieve what they had lost and made it ten times better!…
