Personal Experience: Marching Band In High School
The school activity that I have been most involved in would have to be Marching Band. I’ve done this activity for all 4 years of high school. I’ve gotten the opportunity to be the low brass captain for 3 of those 4 years. That leadership position has taught me how to be responsible for a whole section of the band. Its taught me how to teach others and be comfortable while doing it. At first it was difficult because I was new to playing baritone and the growth that I saw in myself I wanted to to give to the other members so they can prosper and be even better musicians than they could of thought themselves to be. Being a captain showed me how to lead a group of people towards the right direction. Marching Band showed me that what you do does

As Tripp’s instructor, it was a pleasure to get to know him. Tripp has been a great student of mine and it has been my pleasure of being able to teach him. He has some great qualities of a human being and qualities that you would love to see in a leader. Tripp’s hard work and his dedication to music helped him as he joined band and made awesome strides to be on the best percussionist. Tripp also dedicates his time to being a part of the Flomaton High School Jazz Band, and being the drummer at his church First Baptist Church of Flomaton, Alabama. Tripp will one day be a great leader in his…

I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

I am a church member and musician at Revival Tabernacle. By being a musician, I find myself working with the talents and ideas of others as we come together on one accord and produce a skilled sound. I am also currently a student at Jones County High School. Being a student, I am a service to other organizations at school by being an usher for Graduation and also the Chorus Department. My recent involvement in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and DECA has enriched my knowledge of the business sector and how we all come together as a society and produce great ideas. In these organizations, I was able to be a holiday helper at local Nursing Homes to bring cheer to the residents. From my participation in these organizations and activities, I learned that it is better to give than receive. I was able to gain experience with dealing with the public and also give people a sense of comfort and love.…

Influence, the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something. There is a good chance that most of us have been influenced by someone or something throughout our lifetime. We all offer the ability to influence, and to be influenced. In 2011 when I joined my school's marching band, I did not realize the influence it would have on my life by teaching me teamwork, self-discipline, time management, and dedication.…

Sweat drizzles down my skin as it exits my pores trying to cool my heated body. The blood rushes through my veins pumping blood with the consistent pounding of my heart. Every breath, every second, every action, every thought; I am standing where everything counts. Artificial turf and grass crumpled beneath my torn black shoes and the thick silence only cut by the timed chants from afar. This is the last moment I will stand here for this reason. This is the last moment I will stand here with my family. This is the last moment of my marching band career. Many will say that this was a special group of kids, others will say that this year was a show that was made to make it. I, on the other hand, will say that this was because of seven years of dedication.…

Before I had even started high school I hit a very deep depression. I struggled with it for years. I felt I had no family and no friends. It was a very hard time for me. I didn't enjoy talking about my feelings or being around people due to the fact that I felt I just annoyed those around me. Despite this, I continued doing what I loved most: music. I began marching band my eighth grade year and loved the feeling of being on the field in the lights when our assistant band director would come over the loud speaker announcing the "McClain Marching Tigers and Tigerettes". It helped me find and accept who I am. I gained confidence and learned to lead and understand. It even introduced me to my closest friend whom introduced me to his friend group, giving me the first group of friends I had in my life. I've met so many new people and learned so many new skills throughout my marching career and I look forward to finishing out my senior year with the people who have been there with me from the beginning.…

The Butler County Performing and Visual Arts programs our community offers has truly changed the person I am today. Through the Butler County High School Band, I have learned how to play the flute and been doing so for eight years and been able to perform in the marching band as a color guard member for four years. I began playing the flute in 5th grade at Morgantown Elementary School. Never would I imagine the memories and friendships I have gained from picking up that flute when I was 10 years old.…

Tennis and marching band are two extracurricular activities that require both dedication and commitment. Prior to entering my first year of high school, I decided that I wanted to take my love for tennis to the next level and make the O’Fallon high school tennis team. In 5th grade, I committed myself to playing the alto saxophone in the school band and all that entails with lessons and practice, with an eye on playing in the high school marching band. During high school, I made a commitment to participate in the Rose Bowl Parade in California. After making that decision, I found out I made the tennis team. Practicing both these activities in the summer and playing during the fall semester put me at odds with my parents on what should come first tennis or band. The amount of time needed for both activities to succeed was monumental and would be an uphill battle compared to the actual time I had. This caused internal conflict knowing that one will not get as much attention as the other. At that moment, I decided to come up with a solution to my problem then put it into action. One way or another I had developed two answers. I realized to become good at band and tennis something had to change.…
