I know a friend whose biggest pet peeve is lying. And I had to ask him, "Do you think honest is always the best policy?"…
Relationships are probably the most involved and emotionally charged area of our lives. From the moment we are born we form relationships, each one requiring something different from us and giving us something different in return.…
Recently I was talking to my friend about his failed romantic adventures. It's not just him, it's a common thing for us to find ourselves in circles of toxicity because of the people we have in our lives. I'm a firm believer that we have limited energy to spend on people and in return can either receive good things from that energy investment, or get screwed so we should cut our losses and move on.…
Isn’t it annoying when someone is trying to go to his or her locker before and after class, but could not because couples are making out in front the lockers? It is also annoying when people are holding hands and walking really slow and students who are trying to get somewhere are unable to do so. Public Display of Affection, a.k.a PDA, has always been controvercial. In fact, many are against it and believe there should be limits on PDA. Moreover, public display of affection can be expressed in any forms. PDA can range from holding hands to hugging and to even more inappropriate actions such as full making-out session and touching innappropriate places. As a matter fact, PDA is inappropriate and should be kept out of school. But students should also have his or her freedom of expression.…
Did something some ever died or not did, or an item ever just annoy you . Yea that would be a pet peeve. My Husband hates when you interrupt him in the heart of him talking, my Mom cannot stand when you don’t put anything back where you got it from, my brother cringes when someone chew with their mouth open. Everyone has his or her own pet peeves. Something that just really gets on my nerves makes me scream on the inside would be when someone has no manners. Not a simple “Thank you”, Excuse me, pardon me”, “I apologize” sometimes I understand everyone is not brought up…
Everyone has had that a disastrous romantic relationship right? Either you and your boyfriend/girlfriend can’t decide to get alone, and you always break up. These type of relationships are modeled after Knapp’s Stages of Relational Development. This relationship theory was created by Mark Knapp. Knapp was a well known professor at the University of Texas. Knapp’s Stages of Relational Development shows how relationships grow and eventually fail. There are ten stages in total. I will explain these ten types of relationships while giving examples from one of my own relationships. The relationship I will be talking about is the relationship between me and my ex. Our relationship lasted for around 5 years on and off. Currently we aren’t together,…
According to dictionary.com, bureaucracy in sociology is defined as, “A formal organization marked by a clear hierarchy of authority, the existence of written rules of procedure, staffed by full-time salaried officials, and striving for the efficient attainment of organizational goals.” When people think of a bureaucracy, they think of the government. However, there are bureaucracies all over the place in many different businesses and organizations.…
In the book “The DNA of Relationships” Dr. Gary Smalley gives many examples of how to handle rough patches in a relationship. He gives advice on things you need to work on in yourself before confronting your partner, or friend. He also lists many fears and our reactions to these fears. It is a good book to read whether you are in a relationship or not.…
People that chew with their mouths open are people repellents. Nobody wants to be friends with the person chomping away at their meal. For as long as I can remember I've known at least one person I wanted to smack across the face because of their poor eating skills. Chewing with your mouth open also makes you look like you belong in a barn with animals.…
In today’s society there are many people dealing and trying to overcome different types of psychological problems, such as depression, anger, drugs, and phobia. A phobia is characterized by an irrational fear of a specific object or situation that interferes with an individual’s ability to function. Having a fear of a specific object can cause a person to have issues thought out there life with different things or they may just be able to avoid the issue all together. One phobia is the fear of cotton (cotton balls, Q-tips, anything that fells like cotton balls) my other is I must always have socks on my feet unless I’m in the shower or swimming or have flip flops on. If I’m wearing flip flops then I’ll have a pair of socks in my bag to put on in case I take my flip flops off. Over the years this sock phobia has developed for a number of things that I was told and had happen.…
In contrast, eating way too fast is one of the many pet peeves my parents have. It’s due to the fact that it’s a form of bad manners at the table. It isn’t healthy because it contributes to weight gain, and it’s not filling unlike eating slower which nourishes you and doesn’t contribute to weight gain. These are the reasons my parents want me to eat slower. Furthermore, being off task is another pet peeve my parents have with me. They want me to put as much effort as I can into my studies. It irritates them that I am being off task because I could have just used my time wisely to study and/or do school work. They also notice that I tend to get distracted easily when I am off task which doesn’t help my…
Writers in the workplace frequently have to describe things--objects, mechanisms, and spaces. Descriptions of things have several purposes: to enable readers to understand how something works, how it is made or what materials it contains, or to understand how to put something together, take it apart, repair it, etc.…
