Pokemon Go Compare And Contrast
While many criticize Pokemon Go, claiming that it does not increase the attention to nature and historical/important locations, based on my own experiences, I can say the opposite. While at a summer camp, before Pokemon Go was launched, my daily routine was very limited and predictable, only travelling between my classes, the gym, the library and the dining hall. However, after Pokemon Go was released, I began to walk around more - often even walking miles to go to a nearby town and explore. This not only increased my physical activity, one of its objectives, but also created a reason for me to walk longer distances. In addition, while walking to these nearby towns, I wasn't merely staring at my phone like most people would think, but instead left it by my side, looking around at my surroundings and the different environments. Furthermore, the pokestops also sometimes contained a short description of the location or "object", allowing me to learn more about it. I even walked to a few parks throughout my summer camp. Moreover, Pokemon Go also created a sense of community at my summer camp. Whereas before, very small groups of people would occasionally walk to a nearby town, now much …show more content…
For example, while at my summer camp, when I walked to parks, I would often see people just staring down at their phones, waiting for a pokemon to spawn, and switching to another application if one didn't

In conclusion, I believe that, like everything, Pokemon Go has positive and negative aspects, and that its effects are heavily influenced by the person's use. Meaning that while it can be an application that encourages exploration, physical activity and the apprecitation for nature, it can also reduce our attention spans and make us prioritze our game, instead of human contact, or the appreciation of

Last summer, the new app Pokemon Go took the world by storm. Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game which requires people to go outside and walk around. This has greatly encouraged Pokemon fans to get outside, explore the world, and catch ‘em all. Pokemon Go also encourages players to become more aware of their surroundings, or be a cheater like me and play while my parents are driving. As a result of being outside, people can become more aware of wildlife in their communities. They may discover real animals that serve as models for what Pokemon were based on.…

The two articles, “Why Being a Thinker means Pocketing your Smartphone” by Todd Leopold and “Have Smartphones killed boredom (and is that good?)” by Doug Gross, bring up good points about how smartphones affect our lives. Today, smartphones are mainly used to help eliminate boredom in our lives, but they also can distract us from what's going on around us. When they aren't being used to distract us, they can become a useful tool to help us in our daily lives; such as, checking/writing emails, calling, texting, checking the news, and so much more. These applications can easily distract us as well.…

I completed my observation at the DMV in Novato. I sat in the back row at the chair closest to the entrance. I took the complete observer role and really enjoyed it. I learned a lot about people in the DMV from conducting this observation. Now when I go out and observe I understand what to look for and I can use what I’ve learned and apply it to my field notes. One of the most interesting things I found while conducting this experiment were the amount of people on their phones. It’s not always the best thing to stereotype, but I found that the younger the person waiting, the more likely they were to be on their phone the entire time. Many young people didn’t even look up, not even once.…

The United States has long been considered a “Nation of Immigrants.” According to 2009 American Community Survey estimates, about one in eight U.S. residents are foreign-born. These racially diverse immigrants come from all over the world to the United States for a variety of reasons, but most seek a better life for themselves and their families. However, some groups encounter significant challenges to achieving the “American dream.” This course will examine the political, social, and economic factors that contribute to the unequal incorporation of immigrant groups from different parts of the world. It will also explore how immigrants and their children have mobilized to secure rights and equal opportunities. Particular attention will be paid to the experiences of immigrants in Los Angeles and New York, the two metropolitan areas with the largest foreign-born populations.…

People with depression and anxiety are finding hope in the mobile game. People who struggle to converse with others are finding help in the smartphone app. Individuals who don’t leave their home or kids who would rather play video games are getting outside more and becoming more active on their quests to catch all the Pokémon. Pokémon Go also has downfalls. People have to be on their phones, more than they usually are, to play the game. People are lacking attention in areas that require more attention and are hurting themselves because they are playing with technology. People are also entering sacred memorials and lands where people don't want to be distracted by people just stopping by to play a game. The American culture functions on the use of technology. It is now seven months since Pokémon Go was first released. The popularity has started to decrease. You don't look at public parks and just see people catching Pokémon anymore. Though the popularity of this smartphone app may continue to decrease, the American culture will continue to increases it’s dependency on…

To begin, Pokemon Go acted as a health booster for many people. According to the article "Pokemon Go Has Kids on the Move- and Their Phones, By: Kj Dell’Antonia" implies, "The game requires the player to be active." This means you have to venture out of your cold, dark homes to play. Secondly, "Pokemon Go Brings Augmented Reality to a Mass Audience, By: Nick Wingfield" reads, "It has sent people into streets, parks onto beaches…

Teens and adults text while driving, because the possibility of a social connection is more important than their own lives (and the lives of others). They interrupt one call to take another, even when they don’t know who’s on the other line (but to be honest, we’ve been doing this for years before caller ID). They check their Twitter stream while on a date, because something more interesting or entertaining just might be happening.…
