Potential Leadership Practices
After the completion of Seven Habits Profile I reflected on the profile and my potential leadership practices. Some of the categories that I scored outstanding in did not surprise me as some mirror my values and what is important to me. Category 3 discusses being proactive and choosing to live believing that one is primarily in control of their own life. Having a proactive approach in the workplace is important for success because it allows one to act in advance of future events. Being reactive as a pose to proactive may lead to lost vision items. This indicates that at times I may have a lack of persistence in leading with a vision. It may also indicate that I may need improvement in planning milestones to eventually get to the end goal. An example of this is to create to do lists or plan for the next day at the end of the current business day. By doing this one is able to reflect of the current day and tailor the next day’s plan steps closer to the vision. Self-management is a practice that will help one stay organized and focused on the overall success of the organization. Another category that I could improve on is category 2 which is life balance. Life balance is one area that is very challenging for many people. Managing life balance is imperative to one’s sanity and to avoid burn out in the workplace. An example of proper life balance is moving away from the desk during lunch period to focus on taking a break and eating rather working through it every day. This will benefit me by providing stress relief and social opportunity to build relationships with others. The final category that I could improve on is number 7 which is seeking to understand. I am guilty of displaying a sense of judgment when someone tells me about an unfavorable situation in their life. In order to improve in this category I will need to seek to understand the point of views of others. An example of doing this properly is to carefully listen to someone with intent of understanding their point of view. This can be demonstrated when someone is informing of a situation that I respond to that individual with a stated understanding to show that I carefully listened and are seeking their point of views and refraining from interjecting my point of views during the story telling

My mentor used to be my boss and he told me that while I was ultimately one of his best program directors he had ever supervised; my journey to the directorship was exhausting and sometimes a bit frustrating for him. He stated that I would ask questions about every minute detail because I seemed to fear making a mistake. He said that for me to become a leader I need to believe in myself, have confidence that I am capable and I do know what I am doing. He told me that until I learn to trust myself, I am going to have a difficult time getting others to trust me as a leader. He also told me that I have the capacity to become a transformational leader, which is my goal, but I have to let go of the fear, and allow myself to make mistakes. According to him, mistakes teach valuable lessons, and the way I react to the mistake builds…

Now I am supposed to do a research depicting how different leadership theories apply to your chosen school setting. Things haven’t changed I’m choosing my school to write about while taking the course studies. Edith Robinson Christian Academy (ERCA) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida is a unique private school. (ERCA) proudly uses the slogan, “Love lives here.” In the simplest of terms, this is what Edith Robinson Christian Academy offers the at-risk-youth of Fort Lauderdale, Florida—children, teens, and young adults who may not often hear that they are valued, believed in, and loved. Driven by a philosophy that you can never give up on a child, Edith Robinson Christian Academy staff actively seeks out youth who have been thrown out of school, are unable to reach their full potential in a traditional school or are barred from other programs. This passionate organization helps them change their lives—and realize their full potential. Well this school year I have a staff; Principal, five teacher, two cafeteria worker, one security, two transportation driver, and myself the Director of Schools. The grade levels we deal with are from K though 12. In 2013 I we had to pick a leadership theory that best fits your program. I’m to pick a minimum of three different leadership article from Grand Canyon University elibrary. So this time around my position at the school hasn’t change, but I’m more so the true leader here and I have to have my staff understand the direction or vision I have for the…
