I was able to improve Communication skill and assessment skills. Also, I learned how to utilize my academic knowledge in real experiences. I also learned the importance of collaborative work within the interdisciplinary team, and importance of family centered care. During my practicum, I was able to observe child life specialists in different units including pediatrics, PICU, NICU, Surgery center, Emergency Department, and Neurotrauma. I was also able to independently interact with patients and families to introduce child life services, and became able to assess patients’ and families’ needs, developmental level, and anxiety level to plan therapeutic interventions. I introduced child life services and interacted with patients and families independently, and that helped me improve my communication skill and intervention skill. I practiced preparation and procedural support in pediatrics and surgery center, and I increased my knowledge and skills to observe, assess their developmental and anxiety level, and plan therapeutic interventions during my practicum.
