Pre-K Experience Paper
Completing my first week in Ms. Cuiffo’s pre- k class in Madison Monroe elementary school was already an amazing experience. I am now understanding the routine of the classroom, knowing the location of items around the room, and also building relationships with the students. My class is of 15 children with the main teacher Ms, Cuiffo along with a teacher aid. This is a full day pre-k so when I attend I observe their routine from welcome up until naptime.
Being Ms.Cuiffo’s class this past week I have seen the importance of routine for children this age. The routine in this classroom is breakfast, followed by welcome meeting. After meeting they are read a story. I like that they have this time because it is a good quick activity to do with the

After orientation and hearing how important it is to work with your cooperating teacher I was so nervous of not getting someone I felt comfortable with. After being with Ms. Cuiffo for this past full week I enjoy working with her and watching her in the classroom. She is very nice, and laid back which makes it easy for me to ask her questions. She has graduated from Kean too which makes things even more helpful because she has been in my shoes. However, the only negative I have about her is that her attitude towards the students isn’t always the greatest. She has been teaching for 18 years and it is obvious to see that she is tired and doesn’t have the same passion for it as she might has had before. Her responds to the students will be short, sarcastic, tired, and as if she is uninterested in the emotions of the students. She kind of comes off as if she doesn’t have the patience for the mistakes preschoolers are bond to make as preschoolers such as making mess, crying, and being antsy. Even though it isn’t really a positive attitude for a teacher with this age however I still feel it is a learning experience of how the attitude of the teacher can affect the atmosphere of the

As a professional I attend regular trainings both in and out of work. Some training is provided for me by my employer, while others I seek out on my own. In June I attended training for 2 weeks before children started attending class. These trainings focused on areas such as health, routines and transitions, environments, goals/objectives and school readiness. One way I apply these trainings is by setting a routine in the classroom and remembering to abide by it, while allowing some flexibility as the children need it. It is important to keep a routine so that the children know what to expect. A routine helps children to stay focused…

Today many public schools have pre-kindergarten programs. The children in these programs come from different experiences, backgrounds, and all have different needs. Pre-kindergarten programs give children an advantage to learning prior to kindergarten. I performed my second filed observation at Pinkston Street Elementary School in Henderson, NC. The elementary school is in a rural county and this school has lots of diversity in which there are African-American, Caucasian, and Mexican students. The classroom that I observed is one of four pre-kindergarten classrooms in the school. The elementary school is also one of three of the schools in the county to require…

The first hour and a half I spent observing Mrs. Ballardo kindergarten classroom. The type of lesson that I am observing is Math Cooperative groups and the objective that is being worked on in this lesson is that the students can show that they know the numbers by counting dots on a die. When walking into the classroom I immediately felt like this was a class that promoted learning. It felt so welcoming, and the mood of the children were great they were all sitting on the rug and ready to learn. The classroom is arranged with the five tables. When you first walk into the classroom there are two…

Kindergarden was one of my most favorite years. I had the nicest teacher, Mrs. Tocheck. She would always play games with us like hiding and seek in the dark. Kendrick and I would always hide together and Mrs. Tocheck would never find us until she said she gave up and we would come out of hiding. Every day we would have stations set up during free time. There would be a dollhouse, a painting area, and a toy area. I would always go and paint pumpkins in October and bring them home to decorate the house. One time Kendrick, Ethan, and I made a huge fish made out of about ten pages of…

When I had first volunteered at a preparatory school as a teacher’s assistant, I was thrilled and excited. I enjoyed working with children and I admit, was slightly disillusioned with expectations that the children would be dutiful and effortless to watch over. Unfortunately, all my prior imaginations crashed the second I entered the classroom. Everywhere I saw, it was pure chaos. I dodged a flying crayon as I saw children running around throwing paper airplanes, balls, while others just stared at their iPads, focused on the latest game. Not a single one of them even listened to me or glanced at me as I tried to yell over the loud chatter.…

This observation took place on Saturday October 17th at Town Center Corte Madera at approximately 2:00pm. The day was bright and sunny and the Mall was full of all kinds of parents and children. I choose a male child approximately 3 years old, wearing blue top and black pants with sponge bob square pants sneakers. The mother was wearing a yoga outfit as most mothers in Marin seem to wear these days. She was in her mid-thirties. Dad was also present, he wore a short sleeved Hawaiian print shirt with Khaki shorts and flip flops, and he too seemed to be in his mid-thirties. I was sitting at the table near the elephant fountain facing the fountain with my back to the store so know…

As Christian home base daycare educators for underprivileged children ages 6 weeks to age four, it is important that we understand how each child’s development translates into our behavioral expectation in the classroom. As a Christian home base daycare center there are many things we are able to offer that a school setting does not allow; such as prayer; every morning we start the day off with prayer. Because children are so energetic after breakfast comes Zumba followed with chillax which consist of planking one minute on our mats. We then go over our rules and if’s (what happens if the rules are not followed), making sure that every child fully understand what each expectation means... “Teaching rules and procedures to students at the beginning of the year and enforcing them consistently across time increases student academic achievement and task engagement” (Evertson, 1985; 1989; Evertson & Emmer, 1982; Johnson, Stoner, & Green, 1996).…

I set up an appointment with the Kids Club daycare at 9:45 am on November 4th to observe for an hour of toddler classroom who were between three and four years old. The principle gave me a warm greeting and took me to the class and introduced me to the teachers and the children. Everyone there made me feel welcomed. I chose a place where I can sit, observe and write my note as well as to be away from children's sight. In the classroom there were five boys, two girls, and two teachers Ms. Nadia and Ms. Emma. The classroom itself was large and spacious. The classroom is very appropriate for children this age and it has many interesting areas such as a blocks and art area, and children taped some of their previous work in the art area. The color of the class is bright and has interesting posters like calendars with the name of children’s birthdays. Also. There is a toys area that has toys suitable for both boys and girls like cars, animals, and doll. There is a reading area with a little amount of children’s books and stories in reachable…

At 1:00 p.m. I entered into Evoline C. West Elementary school on Thursday, July 12 2012 for an interview with Mrs. Yolanda Lawrence. As I entered the classroom, I was greeted by Mrs. Lawrence, the head teacher in this classroom. Mrs. Lawrence has no assistant at this present because of it being in the summer. After I entered into the classroom, the entire class welcomed me with “hello Ms. Flournoy”. It made my day to see all of those smiley faces greeting me. This was a 2nd grade classroom which consisted of 17 students of which 8 were girls and 9 were boys. This interview and observation was a total of 2 hours long. During the observation of Mrs. Lawrence classroom, I noticed how the students flocked under Mrs. Lawrence as she started reading one their favorite books before they did their afternoon lesson. For some reason I got an excitement about doing this interview.…

The past few weeks I have gathered knowledge and experience of three different adult age groups through the mediums of interview and observation. I interviewed (1) a young adult in college (He will be referred to as B), (2) a middle aged woman in her 50s (She will be referred to as D), and (3) a large group of older adults ages 50-93. From these experiences, I gained insight into how well developed the adult spectrum is socially and cognitively. With this information, I am able to connect how different brain functions correlate to the behaviors I observed, and how to consider it in music therapy context.…

When I first thought about the student teaching, I went through many emotions, most of them were negative. I had just returned to the classroom after moving back from Savannah, Georgia to Cades, SC. The catalyst for this move was my father who was fighting liver cancer. I had so many questions running through my mind. What will the teachers be like? Will the faculty understand and encourage me? I was worried that my cooperative teacher and I would not have the same teaching styles, and I was apprehensive about engaging the students. What was I going you do if I was not able to be the kind of teacher I had hoped to be?…
