In order for a product to be released for sale to the public, it needs to be tested. Many companies choose to test their products on animals before moving to human trials. Doing so is unproductive …show more content…
However, there are alternatives to animal testing that can effectively test the safety of different products before they are tested on humans. “Human clinical trials and epidemiological studies, human tissue- and cell-based research methods, cadavers, sophisticated high-fidelity human patient simulators and computational models are more reliable, more precise, less expensive, and more humane than animal experiments,” (Berlatsky). Through the use of alternative testing methods, scientists can save money, and the lives of animals, all while producing more accurate test results. “We can now test irritancy on protein membranes, produce and test vaccines using human tissue, and perform pregnancy tests using blood samples instead of killing rabbits,” (Berlatsky). New technology allows scientists to grow sheets of human skin in labs, products can now technically be tested on humans without the possible danger that comes along with traditional testing. Animal experimentation is now not only cruel, but also obsolete. “Epidemiology, cell culture experiments, and human clinical studies, as well as recent advances in in silico biology (computational modeling), are all better suited to efficiently and safely uncovering the cause of a disease and its treatment than is animal experimentation,” (Hunnicutt). Not only are these new ways of testing more humane, but they are also more accurate. As discussed in the prior paragraph, animal experimentation is not always reliable. With cell culture experiments and human clinical trials, scientists can see how products affect humans right away, without having to go through the trouble of testing the products on animals. With all the new technology available to scientists, there’s reason for animal experimentation to continue. The continuous abuse lab animals suffer is unnecessary and unreasonable, there’s no reason that animal experimentation
