Pros And Cons Of Extending School Hours
The school board plans to add one and a half hours to school each day. Do you agree or disagree with extending the school day? Currently we have school for 6 hours. School starts at 7:30 and ends at 2:45. So when adding an extra 30 minutes that means that students won’t get out of school until 3:05. So students on first run won’t be home until probably 3:20 and 2nd run won’t be home until 3:40 around. Do i think that schools should add an extra 30 minutes? No, because well get home later we have to sit in the classroom for another 30 minutes.

I highly disagree with this situation about the school adding half of an hour. I will explain why it’s a bad decision. It is not a smart idea just to keep children in the school for an hour because

I robustly believe that the school hour should start later in the day. Eisenhower High School needs to change the early hour they start at so students can perform their academic best. Unquestionably, many students are not learning all they can due to lack of sleep. Studies have shown that students brains do not wake up or start working until later in the morning. It is recommended that students get 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep each night, but many students get less hours than what is recommended.…

Krueger middle school claims they need more time to get from class to class. Some students are running from class to class and get hurt. If there's 5 minutes that will be enough time to get a drink and go to the bathroom so there's no valuable time taken away from class. Also if one student shows up tardy it distracts the whole class because they have to turn around and look who came in. If everybody's on time to class there's more time to learn. Its also very convenient for teachers if there's 5 minutes, because they don't have to leave the class to go to the bathroom. A student from krueger middle school stated, ‘Three minutes is not enough time to get there and get your things out of your locker. This year for tardies we have to go to court. Nobody wants THAT! Even if it makes our day a little longer , the time will be well…

East Porter County Schools are making a big mistake with later school start time. Getting out of school later can cut into the time students spend with their parents if they are divorced. Students should as well be more responsible before school. Kids will also think they can stay up even later. So later school start time is going to lead to bad habits and high levels of stress.…

Schools shouldn’t start at later times. Schools shouldn’t do this because it would push back practice for school sports, parents would have a difficult time getting to work on time, and it’s harder for students to get home safely. If schools start later, students will not have enough time for homework or projects to finish. If they don’t, they’ll have a good amount of time to finish it. Yes, students will get more sleep if school does start later but keeping it the way it is had good reasons why it shouldn’t be pushed back.…

Research shows that there is a better retention rate from year-round schooling, along with better academic performance, and lower dropout rates (there is a 2% dropout rate for year-round schools, while the traditional has a 5% dropout rate). In year-round educational plans, the school is set on a school plan and track. The plan determines the number of consecutive days students attend school and also dictates the break schedule. The track determines which students are present in the school at a given time. As of 2011–12, an estimated 3,700 schools across the United States, accounting for about 4 percent of all public schools, held classes on a year-round school calendar, according to data from the National Center for Education Statistics. Year-round…

I believe that school should stay the way it currently is. With school the way it currently is students still have time after school. Students will still have time for sports after school and other school related functions. If school started later in the day and ended later students wouldn't have hardly any time after school for things such as sports, socializing, and spending time with there families. After students get up early for a week or so they would get used to it and their bodies would adapt to the change.…

Therefor I don’t think our school board should add time to each school day. I think we should keep our schedule starting at 7:30 and ending at 2:30. That way we can get home do chores, play and go to any afterschool activities. If we changed our school hours that would interfere with parents/guardians work schedules. Now with the schedules our school has we don’t get to restless with the teachers or other…

Making this change would result in many things like: kids being productive, young teens staying off the streets, etc. Many parents would disagree with this decision and some may agree. Its pro's and con's with this change, but many may have to overlook those facts and look at the positive things that will result from a change being made. For this debate I am debating why school time should stay the same. J.C.M.S middle school in Sierra Vista has a delayed start time of 9:00 a.m., and finish school at 4:00 p.m. This affects the children who are involved if afternoon sports, most time not getting out until 6:00 p.m sometimes later. If you have homework that same night after spending two hours doing a sport you might procrastinate and not do your homework at all or you will be tired and end up making mistakes that should not have been made. An earlier start time ensures an earlier release time letting sports start earlier and homework being done at an earlier time while not as exhausted from the day.…
