Self-driving cars work by using an “internal map of their surroundings, based on a wide array of sensors, like radar, along with other sensors to construct their internal map.” So basically self-driving cars work buy using a maps to help you get to your location and also use sensors to detect when next to other cars or pedestrians.
With this in mind I want to figure out the effects self-driving cars will have. When I first heard of self-driving cars, …show more content…
I thought wow, what a good idea. I thought self-driving cars would only positivity impact today's society. Well I wanted to find out exactly how self-driving cars, would affect everyone's everyday life.
Self-driving cars, like I stated before is a great invention and would change the way people live. Self-driving cars would take out the people error, reckless driving is a result of 90% of motorised accidents. With self driving cars, they work by using maps and sensors, which has no human input at all, Taking out the room for human error. With this in mind roads would be so much safer for people on bikes, and people walking.
Also with self driving cars, We are so early in this technology that no laws have been made against people not paying attention in while behind these cars. So without the need of human input, you could possible do things you couldn't do while behind the wheel of a regular car. For example if you're a female you could do your makeup, you catch up on sleep, students could do homework.
Having free time behind the wheel, and safer roads sounds great for self driving car companies.
But what about the negative effect of them, in pittsburgh they have introduced a self-driving car, uber company. “self-driving research and technology is here developing and doing real-world testing in the double black diamond of cities: Pittsburgh.” So there has already been testing of this, working for uber. Wait, with these self-driving cars, there is no real need for people to work for uber. So does these people lose their jobs? Also what if the technology rolls over to tractor trailers and trucks, would delivery men and truck drivers lose their job as well? These are questions no one really has the answers for, which is one of the reasons this in not a world wide thing. Along with the people potentially losing their jobs, i’m certain these cars would more expensive than a normal car, regular cars are already expensive enough for most americans, I don't see there being a market for self driving cars at this point.
So in conclusion, self-driving cars in my opinion would do more bad than good for today's society. Yes they would eliminate driver error, make roads safer and reduce carbon footprints, but Along with those benefits. The negative side is expensive price tag, the possibility of people losing jobs and the lack of laws created for
them.
Would I get a self driving car? No, I personally enjoy driving and having full control of my vehicle at all times. There are just too many things that are questionable about the technology at this point. Maybe one day when there are laws to protect people that have self-driving cars and the cars become more affordable. Then I could consider purchasing one for personal use
