Quiet Maxine Monologue
“Quiet, Max, it’ll be okay,” my mom whispered, as she soothingly attempts to calm me down. I looked around and wondered how this would actually happen to me, a small-town girl. My name’s Maxine, also known as Max to close friends and family, and I’m a 12-year-old who lives in Rome, Italy, the country shaped like a boot. I have brown, curly, hair and brown eyes. I live with both of my parents. My father, George, a tall guy with brown, curly hair and dark brown eyes. My mother, Viviana, also has brown hair, but it’s wavy and she’s the only one in our family who has bright, green eyes. We were all enjoying breakfast while having a conversation about what we were all doing today. In the middle of our conversation, we heard the church bell go off, …show more content…
We start talking with the ladies that had taken care of us in their home. They go into more detail about a word called feudalism which is basically the different levels of society and how the exchange land for protection, and for us, we give our services for protection. We didn't say much until we heard a loud horn which supposedly meant it was time for us to go out and work. The whole day we were being helped by really nice people who seemed to be consent with their position in society. I was put to work in the fields planting crops with my mother. At the end of the day, I was exhausted. My mom and I shared a bed since we were in a small house area. We laid down and talked about my dad, our old community, old friends, family, and how it has all changed. But for now, this might be the safest bet for us, and I know my father would be happy. I look up at the ceiling smiling, knowing he is in heaven watching over us. As long as we do our part in society, I'm sure we'll be safe. And in the end, who would have ever known that a small, Roman girl's life would end up like this? I certainly

Crazy Ava is directly inside the open door with the EMTs at her side, fussing over her again. Except this time something is different. Lying on the sofa with her mouth half open and the paramedics kneeling over her, a fossil of an eastern bloc peasant, the type that you smell rye bread, sauerkraut and old brick dust on, her sour expression has vanished. And sure enough, she is wearing that Parasztok headscarf again.…

“Get over here” the man yelled at the child on that cold December evening in 1985. As the boy unhappily trudged over to his father he was thinking about something far beyond reality, and that one thing was dinner. Even though they had cupboards of food he hadn’t had dinner or any meal for that matter for at least a couple weeks. “ Now you listen to me Max Parks”, the man said raising his hand high in the air, “ if you don't stop crying and moaning about food i will give you something to cry about”. As he said that he flung his hand down until it connected with the boys face.…

Jessie remained silent as Irish spoke of her beliefs. The concept was foreign to him, and he listened with curiosity and apprehension. Quiet Cool: A walk in the sun As my brother, Pat and walked in the woods on a bright sunny day in the summers of our youth as we so often did, we came accost a place that we called Quiet Cool. It was a circular crater with steep sides and a eerie silence all around. As we walked down the near vertical slopes of the crater we saw that the bottom had some sort of small stacked stone wall built bisecting the crater floor in two, we decided then and there that one side was mine and the other was his. The air in that place just seemed to stop blowing and time itself seemed to stand still, it was calm and very cool, one could hear what seemed like everything around, the smell of the earth its self was present there.…
