Reading Reflection: Steal Like An Artist
For this reading reflection I read two chapters from the book Steal like an artist. The first chapter is called Side Projects are Important. The main idea in this chapter is that even though hobbies might not make us money they are important because they keep you happy. They are a massive part of who we are. They let us take time to stop from our busy life and relax. People often hid their hobbies if they feel that it does not match everyone else’s ideals of us. This chapter also talked about how today people are living in a state of fear of missing out, which causes us to try and outdo everyone else. I feel that social media can play a huge part in this. If you see other peoples lives and they appear better in photos, you will want to try

The success of the French in North America was largely due to the associations they developed with the American Indians, and the fur trading that provided animal pelts that were in high demand throughout Europe. The French built missions and worked to convert the Indians to Christianity, they settled primarily in Canada and the Great Lakes. France attempted to pioneer several settlements throughout North America that failed because of war with other countries, bad weather and diseases. Even though the French population was extremely small compared to the English they were still a major contender in North America because of their relations with the Indians. The French had the support of American Indians in staggering numbers during the four wars with England.…

One way Kleon's Steal Like an Artist reshaped my perceptions is through his self-care advice. Kleon advises artists to be healthy and boring in order to have the ability to devote everything to art. For instance, Kleon states that "it takes a lot of energy to be creative. You don't have that energy if you waste it on other stuff" (119). Kleon's advice allowed me to realize how terribly unhealthy I had let myself become in the past two years, and inspired me to make a change for the benefit of myself and my art.…

It is now a common trend to find a person who may be a great painter in the music industry because it is almost impossible to make a living out of being a painter. Ray Bradbury once said, “Be what you are with all your heart and soul, because that’s all you’re ever going to have.” In Bradbury’s letter, he makes a statement that is very relevant in this our modern age society. Bradbury declares that, there are numerous things we want to do with our lives but they may not necessarily bring us joy because they are not things we can do with our heart and soul. Rather, he wants us to “perfect” the things we can do because they are things we can do with our heart and soul and when we do things with our heart and soul, we are happy.…

The Arts have called my name for as long as I can remember. As a child, I dabbled in any intensively creative and performative thing that was in the immediate vicinity. I would go around telling all my peers that when I grew up, I was going to have any one of a number of extravagant careers: I would promise to become a famous actress on Monday, declare myself a world-class musician on Wednesday and swear to grow to be a best-selling novelist by Friday. The Arts, and all they encompassed, were my first love. It only seemed natural to me, like eating or blinking, that my life should be dedicated to the very thing that made me the happiest. I finally took my ambitions to heart my first year of high school, where I eagerly sought out beginning…

Sometime between preschool to fourth grade, I discovered that writing was difficult. I began learning how to sound out words while struggling to portray my thoughts through writing. Instead of trying to improve my writing, I squeezed by, one essay at a time. Now that I am in college, I have to realize my strengths and corrected my weaknesses in the writing process.…

I found the video to be quite educational. However, I connected most to Ms. Hearn. In regards to Ms. MacLean, I was impressed with her teaching method, but not surprised. One of the main goals when constructing knowledge is being able to link new with existing information. For that occur, teachers must survey their students to discover common interests. By doing so, teachers increase the chance of student comprehension because the lesson being taught is engrossing.…

As an artist, sometimes self-doubt plagues me and I question myself, “ Am I doing the right thing by sharing my inner-self with the world?” However, when I hear, “It takes courage to let others see me, my feelings, my being,” I know I am on the right path. I then use my diffidence to fuel my artistic urges and painting another portrait. It is invariably one small step at a time, one paining at a time, but I have to move ahead on my voyage to self-actualization. There are many other reasons why I want to build my life with my love for painting as a foundation; but one is more than enough – It gives me my…

When walking into my first period class as high schooler, I pictured myself as a well-rounded writer. My impression suddenly changed after a few weeks in Ms. Giroux’s class. As I received my first ECQ grade with a blood-inked C written in the corner, I realized I was going to have to put a lot more effort into my writing. I began to spend more time and put tedious details in my writing while doing deep revisions after my paper was complete. Towards the beginning of the year, my writing lacked creativity and organization skills.…

Throughout this year, my writing has progressed in both negative and positive ways, but mostly positive ways. I have improved in many ways from looking at some of my first writings. I remember walking around the hall and trying to find room 544. Walking in and seeing all of the books along with posters, realizing it was actually the first day of school. Finding my seat was not too hard because it happened to be the first one when walking in.…

The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin is an impressive literary piece that touches the reader’s feelings as well as the mind. Even thought that the story is short, it is very rich, complete, and it carries deep sense of meaning to everyone. It is also represented through a negative view of marriage with a woman that is not saddened by the death of her husband. It is a great view to read it carefully and pay attention to each and every word said in this story they are telling. This short story is trying to bring the meaning is not to believe everything that is told to you until it is seen with your own two eyes.…

From the start of this school year in eighth grade I have improved on my writing in one way or another. Since the beginning of the school year I have always struggled with writing. I never knew what to write or where to start but, as the year went on I struggled less and began to find a better starting point easier. There were somethings that I always found were easier for me to complete than others. Finding quotes to support my opinion was hard…
