This is not only including those who are being served but also those who are serving. When serving, you begin to realize the borders that do exist in the world. You begin to realize the stereotypes that are placed on people before anyone understand who they really are. Once you begin to really understand others and their stories cultural borders are broken down and crossed. Crossing Cultural borders is stated by Rhoads as, “community service helpful in bridging cultural differences and in making connections with diverse others.” Ms. Placencia stated, “There are diverse people in the different classes of the world, along with those stuck in poverty, and when we serve, we understand that we are all the same... some of us are just more beneficial than others.” Community Service forces you to understand the stories of others and break down the borders to be able to work together and build volunteer
