Reflection On My Writing
Throughout the duration of this class, English 1A, it is clear to see that not only have I grown immensely as a reader and writer, but as a critical thinker as well. Coming into this course, I always felt as if my strength in academics was English. Starting in elementary school, I had continuously been placed in advanced English classes; this continued throughout high school. It has always been evident to me that there was room for improvement in my reading and writing, but it was not until the completion of this course that I understood to the extent of growth that I was capable of. For this argumentative essay, I was prompted to take a stand on a relevant issue in today's society which I felt strongly about and persuade the readers to consider my point of view. It was essential for me to persuasively voice my ideas with the support of research. This essay helped me improve in many aspects of my writing, one being the ability to conduct thorough research. Before I completed this essay, I never understood why my previous teachers stressed the importance of research. It wasn’t until I was in the midst of searching for credible and applicable examples and ideas that I began to understand the power of it. Throughout my writing process, I found that research is very important anytime you are trying to convey an idea or opinion as it offers support and credibility to your proposal. Doing research helped me to understand the various aspects of topic which made it much easier to go about arguing in a meaningful manner.
Furthermore, this argumentative essay also called me to investigate and discuss the opposing sides arguments. This particular writing project has showed me that there in every good argumentative paper it is necessary to consider and review counter arguments and then elaborate on what I find problematic about their reasoning. This assisted me in adequately exploring all side, aspects, and opinions of the topic which in the end, helps me to effectively argue my opinions and
