I had an initial appointment scheduled at the library and while I was in route to the library the client had sent me a text message stating that she had arrived at the library approximately 20 minutes early and was there waiting on me. I had responded to the client that I was approximately 5 minutes away and would be there as soon as I could be. I had arrived at the library and while I was walking into the library a client that I am familiar with arrived in her vehicle and verbally greeted me stating that she was picking up her children for an unsupervised visitation. The client had gotten out of the car and I noticed that she was “wobbly” and wasn’t walking straight. I spoke with the client away from the children and inquired if she was under the influence of something. The client first stated no then stated that she had received several prescription medications from the emergency room on this day. By this time, the new client that was waiting on me started texting me stating that she wasn’t going to continue waiting on me. I explained to the client that I had a crisis situation occurring and I would be in to meet with her as soon as I could. The client felt that she had been waiting for a long time although it was only 2:55 pm and our scheduled appointment time was 3:00 pm. I felt that the safety of the children and client that I was with at the immediate time was of upmost importance and I asked the client waiting to give me 10 minutes. She declined to do so and departed the library. My focus remained on the situation at hand.
