Relay For Life
Throughout my high school career, I did not show academic excellence from freshman year until the beginning of junior year. When junior year came by, I decided to show my academic potential by signing myself up for Post Secondary Enrollment Option at Concordia University. Following this commitment towards Concordia, it helped bring out my academic abilities by trying harder in school now so that I could get accepted into the PSEO program, which would help pay for parts of my tuition for college. Gradually, I started to show more interest for my academics-- which taught me to become a leader not only to myself, but also to my family and peers. My commitment towards leadership and service to be a more positive difference-maker was brought up …show more content…
Taking care of my younger siblings while my parents were out at work, I taught my siblings valuable life lessons. Learning to love one another, to not get frustrated over little things, and teaching them how to cook. From there on I started to demonstrate my leadership throughout school. From family to school, I decided to set an example of a good samaritan at school. By picking up litter that others had left lying around the school and throwing it away, it helped bring a more positive environment towards the school setting. My commitment towards making a positive impact in the community began with joining Relay For Life, which is a fundraising opportunity towards cancer research. Relay For Life has made a positive impact in the community because the money fundraised goes towards finding a cure for cancer. I had also made a positive difference in the community, and even overseas, by packaging food for children in less developed countries with Feed My Starving …show more content…
Then, in the future by taking my college courses serious, I can show the rewards by having good grades and graduating from college. Being able to show my academic excellence in the future will be challenging though, because if I do not have any scholarships or financial aid then it will be a struggle staying in college, having to pay for the tuition. As a way to show my commitment towards the community, I will participate in Relay For Life, which is a fundraising program for cancer research. Within my team, we have to raise $1400 by the end of the school year, and to make this difference we will be fundraising at Tartan High School. Staying overnight and doing various activities will help make the community around Tartan High School a more positive environment. As we all come and unify together for a probable cause, we will positively make an impact towards the community and the school

Being a part of so many great organizations, for example SMAC (Stillwater Makes a Change) and Youth Leadership Oklahoma, has not compared to being a part of Pink Out week at Stillwater High School. So far, I believe that my greatest accomplishment has been being a Co-head of Pink Out week. Pink Out has helped me grow so much as a leader and has taught me how to execute large scale events. It has also been my biggest impact on the community.…

I went to St. Michael School from Kindergarten through Eighth grade, so when it came time to leave for high school, I was not excited for the change. St. Michael was especially small in regards to student population. We had just under three hundred students split between all nine grades. That left roughly twenty to thirty kids per class. I was extremely used too this small environment and not exactly looking forward to the terrors of high school towering over me nor the thought of being lost in the sea of students. Over the years I was extremely imbedded in my academics. I had straight A’s for my entire time at St. Michael. I received the academic achievement award at Eighth grade promotion for having the highest GPA in my class. Despite this, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to live up…

During high school, I committed most of my free time to my NJROTC unit and my 4-H club. In both of these organizations, community service, leadership, citizenship, and initiative are indispensable values that are essential to their functioning, and I like to think I have learned to embody these traits. In 4-H, I have attended, and then went on to teach, numerous leadership and group trainings. In NJROTC, I attended the Area 5 Leadership Academy, graduated as the Second Honor Cadet of the 2014 Academy, and was selected to be an Aide for the 2015 Academy. I held, or currently hold, leadership positions in both organizations and I feel I set a good example for my peers and subordinates. Through any task, I am enthusiastic about my job and…

Service is the reason I would be a good candidate for the National Junior Honor Society because I have volunteered in the past and would like to volunteer more in the future. I like volunteering because I enjoy helping people. I would like to join the National Junior Honor Society because I like school, I like to study and I would like to do more volunteer work. One of the things I did was volunteer in the World Refugee Day. I drew designs on people’s hands with henna, I also distributed water to the people who were there to watch, and I gave raffle tickets to the people who were participating in the program.…

At school teachers please us with field trips and fun activities. So since they do this it makes me work harder at school to show that I am appreciative to what the teachers have done for my peers and I. This makes an impact on me because the teachers don't need to do all the things that they do for us. Every year my family down it's close to the kids that need clothing. Here are some examples of my service to my community. During my 8th grade year in Elena Christian Jr. High School, both my classmates and I, we decided to do a beach cleanup. We chose the beach across from Water Gut. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I volunteer and participate with the Junior Meteorology Club of Elena L. Christian Junior High School. I help with certain fundraisers such as; bake sales, car washes and collecting donations. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving person. I also volunteered at the Agriculture Fair of 2010. I was helping out the Virgin Islands Police Department booth, assisting the police cadets, police officers, lieutenants and as well as the commissioner. Both my mom and I, we donated funds for Haiti at the VIPD in Frederiksted.…

Relay for Life is a cancer awareness and prevention fundraising event. It is one of the main fundraisers for the American Cancer Society. The fundraiser event itself is both staffed and coordinated by volunteers in over 5000 different communities and multiple countries. A typical Relay for Life event can be anywhere from six to twenty-four hours in length. It is during these hours that volunteers are expected to keep one team member walking on the track at all times. This act signifies that cancer never sleeps or takes a break. Each team in the event also sets up their own themed campsite. It is at this campsite that the team not only rests, but also hosts events and activities for those not currently walking in the…

As a student here at Savanna I believe I gave my best effort to get the grades I have on my transcript. I believe I did achieve a lot notwithstanding all the bumps in the road, my total GPA was a 2.1. During my 9th grade year I was determined to prove how intelligent and hardworking I am, so I took honors biology, and got a C. I was proud considering this was an honors class. Despite being in band and spending several hours practicing after school until the sun was going down, I managed to not fail any of my classes. However, I was disappointed that I received my first D in PE, I believe I could’ve done better.…

I started a choir at my church, which is still singing today. Another milestone that I had reached in my life was my Eagle Scout Award. I have been a very active scout and will continue to be one. The Boy Scouts of America have given me tools and skills that I will use throughout my life. This past summer I was second in charge of a youth leadership-training course. Which is a weeklong event in which the participants learn extensive leadership skills and advanced scout skills. That course gave me a large amount of first hand teaching and leadership experience. As well as my Eagle Scout project which came out to over forty hours of work time and planning…
