What is a hero?

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Some make a small difference, some make a huge difference, but every difference a person makes should be acknowledged. The best known heroes are superheroes such as Superman or Batman, but there are many real life heroes. Three modern day heroes are Valerie Weisler, Harry Swimmer, and my great grandfather Pete because they all strive to make a positive difference in someone’s life. Valerie Weisler has done many things to help people all around the world. The most notable thing she has done is establishing the Validation Project. The Validation Project is a project that is aimed to stop bullying worldwide. Weisler was only 14 years old when she started it and 15 when the project launched. There are currently around 5,000 teens involved with it from all around the world. The project has international branches in many different places, including Germany, Africa, Israel, Korea, England, India, and many other places. Weisler started the project because of her own childhood experiences. She was often made fun of for being friends with the ‘odd’ kids. The Validation Project has also helped people in poverty worldwide by collecting toiletries from hotels and donating them to homeless shelters. (Zansberg)

Swimmer was inspired by a young girl who had cerebral palsy, named Stacy. He has seen children improve so much as to take their first step, say their first word, and even go to college and
