Rikki-tikki-tavi In the story “Rikki-tikki-tavi” written by Rudyard Kipling, Nag the cobra, is the antagonist of the story. Nag and his wife Nagaina lived in India where they were King and Queen of the garden behind a bungalow. In the bungalow lived a family of four, a boy, a mom, a dad and their pet Rikki-tikki, a mongoose. Throughout the story, Nag constructs a plan to get rid of Rikki-tikki and the family. Additionally, Nag proves to be a protector, a killer, and a secretive character. In the beginning of the story, Nag first proves himself to be a protector. The following is an example: “So long as the bungalow is empty, we are the king and queen of the garden; and remember that as soon our eggs in the melon bed hatch (as they may tomorrow) our children will need room and quiet,” (22). Nag and Nagaina want to protect their eggs from Rikki-tikki, who wants to get rid of them all. Nag has a plan to get rid of Rikki-tikki before he gets rid of his family. But will Nag’s plan work?
