Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet
The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare has been reinterpreted and performed globally on several occurrences and occasions. Each time there is something different and unique to it, such as leaving out a part or acting out a scene differently. One scene, in particular, that is interesting to watch with each reenactment, since it seems to be different each new time, is the final scene of the play with the tragic suicide of Romeo and Juliet. In Baz Luhrman’s making of this screenplay the suicide is already different from all of the other makings because Juliet shoots herself with a gun instead of stabbing herself with a dagger. In Franco Zefferelli’s version Juliet doesn’t even start waking up from her haze until Romeo is dead.
Baz Luhrman’s Romeo and Juliet was made in 1996 and is original because instead of taking place in medieval times it is more modern based, also the fatal feud is between gang related families. The death scene of Romeo and Juliet is different from any other making because Juliet is the closest to being awake before Romeo drinks the poison and instead of stabbing herself she uses Romeo’s gun to shoot herself in the head. Also the setting in this movie is California’s Verona beach. Another difference in the tomb scene is when Romeo takes a hostage so that the police don’t kill him.

Juliet finally wakes up from her potion induced sleep after Romeo has already died from drinking the poison he bought from the apothecary and the Friar comes in to assist Romeo and Juliet in their risky getaway. Juliet stabs herself in the heart after the Friar leaves her in the

However, in spite of the many differences, there are similarities between the two stories. Romeo and Juliet and “Teen Couple Executed by their Parents…for daring to fall in love,” both involve the deaths of the couples all happening at a young age, all of them dying before the age of 19 before any of their parents died. Throughout both stories a common factor is that the couples were forced to make adult decisions about their lives and love lives; while, the adults around them were making many poor decisions. Unlike many love stories where the strong, handsome male saves the damsel in distress, the female protagonists in both of these stories appeared to be stronger than their male counterparts. While the other side is a twisted, dark, gloomy form of love that people will use for personal gain. The era of Queen Elizabeth I (1553- 1603) is referred to by many historians as The Golden Age. During her time as queen of England she was able to improve the economy by increasing the size of the middle class; she mandated laws that required churches to care for orphans the elderly and the sick to keep them off of the streets; schools were established, and it became a normal thing for noble children and boys from middle class families to receive an education (Benson). Over a fifth of the population was literate by the time she died in 1603. What makes her accomplishments even more astounding is the fact that she was a woman leading a society that was generally governed by patriarchs. During the 16th and 17th century women were considered…
