Social Worker Reflection
I am currently employed as a medical social worker in case management department. My interest is to remain in the healthcare setting as a hospital medical social worker. Being a breast cancer and witnessing several family members’ battle with terminal illness has made me want to make a difference in the lives of patients and their caregivers. I know from my personal experience how hospitalization can alter lives financially and mentally. It is important that social workers know their patients and support systems. Obtaining appropriate information from patients and caregivers help social workers meet the needs of patients and improve their quality of life.

Different people had different views on what creates risk. However we are guided by the purpose of the organisation we are employed in, as well as the legal and policy parameters of our society. Additionally, it would appear that the focus of social…

I agree that evaluations are very important in the social work career field and after much more understanding I now see how critical it is to our populations we serve. You make a good point that we need to first understand what type of help the clients are already receiving and find out if that is even helping them. We can’t move in the direction of helping someone without understanding that and then be able to assess what is then needed. I have always heard bad things about nursing homes from people who have stayed in one, but it makes sense to evaluate the staff and see what they may need to be more effective. I think you made some valid points on how to approach the evaluation process in your practicum. We have to always keep the clients…
