However, I have two students who I focused on for intervention due to academic difficulties. There are fifty-four students in the classroom and the students have block classes throughout the day. There are twenty-two females and thirty-four males in the fourth grade reading classroom. The students age in class range from eight to nine years old. Some of the students have special needs that are met both inside and outside of the classroom.
There are two students that have ADHD, one ADD, eight speech, five are ESOL, eight students are advanced learners, and a total of fourteen receive special needs in the classroom. Overall, the students’ achievement/developmental level is on grade level for fluency and oral retell. Some of the students struggle in comprehension and written retell, however they are able to give an oral retell from a reading passage and understand the author’s purpose of the story. The physical features of the classroom consists of an entrance to the classroom which has a pod area with four
computers.
The teacher’s desk is in the front by the door. There is a white board and red rectangle carpet at the front by the teacher’s desk. There are four groups of five desks in the classroom which is approximately twenty desks. The horseshoe table in the back of the room is used for guided reading. Behind the horseshoe table there is a bulletin board that displays the students work. There is a sink in the back of the room by the window. There is also an exit door on the left side of the classroom. There many resources that are available in the classroom which are: five computers, a dry erase whiteboard, and a projector.
The teacher has multiple boxes of pencils and a couple stacks of writing lined paper for the students to complete their reading and writing assignments. Parental involvement in the school is very low however, all of the parents have the teacher’s number if they have any concerns. There are approximately forty to fifty parents that attend the PTA meetings at Hampton Elementary.
