Summary Of The Seven Storey Mountain
While reading The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton, I began thinking about my faith journey, and how my spiritual life has been shaped into what it is today. I have gone to Catholic school all my life, beginning at St. Francis De Sales, then St. Francis of Assisi Middle School, and finally Roncalli High School. Exploring and learning the Catholic faith has played a huge role in my life and education. In elementary and middle school, I attended a weekly all school mass which I loved doing and being a part of. I remember always looking forward to the next time it was my homeroom’s turn to lead mass, so I could volunteer to read, or bring up the gifts, and to just be involved in the mass. However, just because I loved the mass and felt …show more content…
My mother always taught me to treat everyone with kindness and respect. She wanted me to know that even if we did not attend Mass every week, that does not mean we should not always act as good Catholics. This is something that I feel has helped me grow stronger in my faith and is something I think about everyday. The reason I only really talk about my mom as having a hand in my early faith development is due to the fact that my parents got divorced and separated when I was around 7 years old. I do not really remember much changing in my life other than I was sad about it for awhile and did not really understand what was happening, but I thought it was cool that now I had two different houses to stay at. I did not really remember wanting a faith life until about sixth grade. During middle school I remember wanting something more. While reading the Thomas Merton story, his life with his brother as well as his relationship with his father forced me to think of my relationship with my father and how he has influenced me. My brother and I would go over to my dad’s house on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and every other weekend. This became difficult for my brother and I because we

The Dazzling Heights The Dazzling Heights by Katharine McGee is the second book in the trilogy series, The Thousandth Floor. I found this book was a very interesting read, because I could relate to what the characters were feeling and the situations they were in. One of the character developments I loved the most was of Leda Cole. In the previous book, she is seen as a very angry, emotional, jealous, hurt and uptight person.…

My MQP Journey I am very grateful to attend a Catholic School, and most importantly Mary Queen of Peace. In the past nine years, I have learned numerous things about my faith, knowledge, and service. One of the most important ways I live out my faith at MQP is by attending Mass once a week with my class, and frequently being a part of the Mass by alter serving. My knowledge grows every day with the help of my classmates, and my teachers. Service at MQP has become a part of my life inside and outside of my school environment.…

As I do not practice any religion, I thought that for the religious experience project, I would write about my observations as my sister rekindles her faith and practice in Roman Catholicism. My sister and I were both raised Catholic by our parents and both attended Sunday school where our grandmother was our teacher. However, after our parents divorced about 17 years ago, we both strayed away from our faith. I went on to keep an open mind and learn of other religions but never found my fit. My sister has recently started to return to Catholicism, expressing her desire to have her child baptized someday. For this paper, I asked if I could accompany her to mass for the first time in 17 years at our childhood church, St. Cecilia Catholic Church…

Throughout those eighteen years I have acquired many beliefs and values which define me and my choices. The acquisitions of those beliefs and values have taken place throughout my life from people, the Catholic faith, and my own experiences.…

Growing up in a catholic school, going to church, and being surrounded by Christians has greatly impacted my life. Not noticing it much before, I now see how the majority of the people in my life consider faith the key to a successful life. Additionally, the only way to understand your faith is by reading the Bible. Not only had my parents encouraged me to read the Bible, but those of all different generations around me. My friend Christine, who is thirteen years old, agrees with my mother who is in her forties, and my grandparents who are in their seventies and eighties. I received the chance to ask them personally if they think reading the Bible is important, if they read the Bible, and their favorite Bible stories and lessons. Likewise, I got the chance to do so to myself.…

Strengths and Weaknesses: While I can agree with the author that spiritual interaction within our youth is an incredibly important aspect, I cannot agree that development as a whole will be stifled. From a personal standpoint, I’ve come to know many post-adolescents who would describe themselves as practicing within a faith yet had no childhood experiences with any sort of spiritual organization or event.…

I’m supposed to describe to you my spiritual faith walk, the journey I’ve made throughout my life concerning my beliefs and convictions. I’d like first to define the word spiritual, for the sake of this speech, as something that relates or affects the human spirit or soul. Growing up, my family has simply never been religious. I was never the girl who attended church on Sunday, or prayed, ever. Religion simply wasn’t apart of our family dynamic. It still isn’t. I was, however, always allowed to learn about religion if I desired. When I asked for a Bible, I received one. When my sister and I showed some interest in attending church, my family went the next Sunday. However, none of it stuck. So, I stand here, at a Christian college, the irony fully upon me, telling my class that I don’t believe in anything, not religiously. And I guess that makes me an atheist, or whatever label is placed on nonbelievers. But, I am as firm in that as some of you are in your faiths. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have values and beliefs and morals that guide me everyday, so that’s what I’m going to talk about.…

In recent years, after my conversion and baptism, I began to insert the gospel into the equation. Because of the changes I have made in my life, I have always taught them education is important and love and respect are at the top of my list. Our oldest daughter recently called me and told me she is very grateful for the life lessons I taught her about having a strong work ethic. She told me she is doing well in her job and is thankful to both me and the Lord, for helping her in her life. This is when you know, as a parent, you have done a good thing. That your kids will be okay, being an adult in the world.…

To be or not to be…religious that is! What is religion, and why do people really take part in becoming religious? I cannot answer for others, but for me, my religion reminds me every day that God has the power to show me who is in control…and it is not me! My parents teach me how to be a Christian through their everyday examples of how they live life and by worshiping God through prayer and attending church. However, attending a Catholic school allows me to learn more about religion on a daily basis. A religious education helps me to “encounter the living God who in Jesus Christ reveals his transforming love and truth” (Pope Benedict XVI). By going to a Catholic high school, I have increased my knowledge in the Catholic faith and it has helped me to persevere through difficult times.…
