This particular constellation doesn't have a creation myth. Pictor was invented in 1756 by the French astronomer Abbé Nicolas Louis de Lacaille. He originally called it le Chevalet et la Palette, but labelled it as Equuleus Pictorius on his star chart. Her lover was a young artist with a talent for putting on canvas what a person's soul truly looked like, and had wooed the goddess with a perfect depiction of the goddess' soul. One day the young artist was commissioned to paint the local war lord in all his perceived glory. But when she put brush to paint and then to canvas, she was compelled to paint the truth, which was the most horrific creature as the war lord was an evil man without a drop of kindness within him. When the artist was finished and showed the warlord what she had painted, he had her dragged to the dungeons until she painted what he
