The Brightest Star: Equuleus Pictorius
I have never really been interested in constellations, I always thought of them as random groupings of stars that didn't really look like the things they were supposed to be so I don't really have a favorite. Now the obvious choice would be the sign I was born under, Pisces, but I'd rather not be as cliched as that. Since I myself am an artist, I thought Pictor, The Painter, would be a better choice for the topic of this essay. Pictor contains three main stars, its brightest star is Alpha Pictoris and is located between the star Canopus and the Large Magellanic Cloud.

This particular constellation doesn't have a creation myth. Pictor was invented in 1756 by the French astronomer Abbé Nicolas Louis de Lacaille. He originally called it le Chevalet et la Palette, but labelled it as Equuleus Pictorius on his star chart. It was shortened to just Pictor in 1845 by Francis Bailey, the English Astronomer. …show more content…
