The Candidate Analysis

In the movie The Candidate there are two guys running for California Senate. The first guy running is the incumbent, Crocker Jarmin. Jarmin is a Republican and he stands for all those values. His age also has an impact on his race because he is a little bit older. The next candidate is the Democratic nominee, young Bill McKay. While McKay is new to politics: he is a lawyer, and his father was the Governor of California. The way to a winning campaign is what this whole movie is about. During the movie both of the candidates have to come up with strategies to help their campaign, these strategies are also used in real life too. In the beginning the Democrats did not know who to pick for their candidate, so McKay’s soon to be campaign manager
This fire is set to damage up Malibu. However as much as this fire is a tragedy it a chance for free press for the candidates. As a result of that Bill McKay seizes this moment and drives over to the area and gives a speech talking about how he would fix this. However in the middle of his speech Crocker Jarmin flies in on his helicopter and arrives on the site with McKay. However, since Jarmin is the incumbent senator the people want to know what he has to think. As a result all the reporters went over to Jarmin and he talked about how he already working to pass what McKay wanted to do. This fire really helped out Jarmin and really showed McKay’s inexperience, helping make Jarmin look strong. This fire just shows how free media can help a candidate's campaign. This is when both the candidates talk about how they feel about some issues. The first important debate was between Kennedy and Nixon and because of his appearance people thought he won the debate, and people who listened to it on the radio said Nixon won the debate. This shows that appearance can affect someone’s campaign. McKay being young and good looking gives him the advantage. On the debate McKay is clearly the more spur of the moment where Jarmin is a smooth talker. In the debate we mostly just learned that Jarmin had right values on abortion and that McKay wanted to do more research on the issue. McKay was smart on doing that, because in class we learned that during the primaries a candidate should be more moderate to get all those people to vote. In McKay’s closing statement he does not do a formal one and he start talking bad about the system. This is what sets McKay apart from the “politician”
