The first reason why Quarta is optimistic, is because she is not brought down by teasing. When Quarta saved Kako from being trapped in a tidepool, …show more content…
One example of this is, when it is lunch. She had to be fed by the teachers because of her lack of arms and legs, because she couldn’t eat by herself. We all probably understand that she wouldn’t be able to starve, so she had to be fed somehow. This was probably the only other choice they had other than starving her. Which would be unfair. Because of this, when she started to grow older, students were going on dates. Most of the time she was left home all by herself. She even knew that she was too different for any of the boys to like her. Even though, “They would be nice to her, but it was more like how you would treat a pet than a person.” If I probably was Quarta, I would be super sad and depressed. But Quarta had to stay positive throughout her whole life, even though there were dark times. For example, “When she was five, Quarta went to school like the other children. She did well in classes, better than most of the other children, but she struggled to fit in socially that is, she had almost no friends.” When she has no friends, she really can’t rely on someone to help her through her struggles. When the other students play “Balls and Sticks” nobody wanted her on their team since “Quarta had only two arms, she could only at best, catch one stick, and one ball.” Because of when this happened, nobody ever wanted her. When she feels left out she, must feel like curling up into a ball and start crying. But she has to stay strong in order to stay optimistic. Another example of how she wants and knows she can be better at sports is when she saw the 2 legged creatures playing the game. “They were hitting a large ball over the net back and forth. Incredibly to Quarta, they were hitting the ball with just one arm! They were jumping, some were jumping pretty high with only two legs!” When Quarta probably saw this, she had hope that there was actually a sport where she could play with only two legs and two arms. This would of made her happy that there was actually hope that she would be able to play a sport! As a result of this, when Quarta first introduced “One Ball,” it was kinda hard at first trying to not let the ball touch the ground. “Even though the game was harder than she thought it would be, and the other had trouble learning the rules, they were all enjoying themselves.” So even though the game was hard for even everyone, Quarta still enjoyed playing it even herself. At first she was a little worried that people kept hitting it out of bounds, or missed the ball, they
