When I was four or five, my parents and I would prepare some meals and drive downtown and distribute them to the homeless. Most of the time I would sit in the car, peeking out as my parents handed out meals to the seemingly endless line of homeless people. And I would not be applying to Strake Jesuit as my first choice, unless I was absolutely certain that I would be receiving an excellent Catholic guidance and education. I personally believe Strake Jesuit with its way of Ignatian spirituality doctrine is one of the best methods of advancing on my spiritual journey.
Recently, I went on a trip to Mexico to help build a house. This trip gave me another chance to see more poverty, and to help them. I went and saw people who had been shot, people who had lost their families, people who had run through jungles, just to get a fraction of the life I had. It sobered me, and this time in fresh memory, with an extra eight years of life. It really taught me that I have a duty to serve others who are less fortunate, and Strake Jesuit’s motto exemplifies this, to be a man for others.
I am a very imperfect person. I always think I could be doing more, but I am not. Strake Jesuit as demonstrated above will help me along my journey, and give me more opportunities to help others by teaching me to be a man for others and furthering my Catholic education.
