Conclusion:
Based on the results of the water tests, the bodies of water measured in this experiment are all healthy. The average pH level for all the bodies of water was between 7.4 and 8. This is between the ideal range that aquatic environments should be. The pH levels indicate that the bodies of water are healthy.
The conductivity of all four sites was between 33,636.9 S/cm and 36,850.6 S/cm. The levels of conductivity are significantly high, but this was to be expected as the ocean has high …show more content…
The San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Fenwick bodies of water had a phosphate level of 0.1 ppm and the water tested in Ocean City had a level of 0.2 ppm. This indicates that the water that had a level of 0.1 ppm are healthy and going through pa period of growth or could be receiving an excess amount of runoff. It also indicates that the water tested in Ocean City has an excess of phosphates in the water. This does not mean that the water tested in Ocean City is not healthy, but these high levels of phosphates could be due to bodies of water flowing into the ocean or a recent rain storm. The phosphate levels in San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Fenwick are healthy, but the water tested in Ocean City is slightly less healthy when compared to the other waters tested. However, since all of the other tests were healthy and there appeared to be no pollutants affecting the water, the water tested in Ocean City is considered …show more content…
There could have been human error while taking the water samples and this could affect the results of the tests conducted. For example, the high levels of conductivity could be because the water samples were taken where the waves were crashing. Another error could’ve neem that the water tests were skewed as they were being taken and weren’t sealed. This could’ve increased the level of dissolved oxygen within the samples and made the levels higher. There is also an uncertainty of the probes used to measure the pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, nitrates and phosphates. The uncertainty of each test is shown above on the graphs. below are the levels of uncertainties. Below is the uncertainty level for each
