It can actually allow people to visually communicate with each other via devices, such as tablets and mobile phones, and with the use of software on a computer, as if they were sat in front of each other in the same room. It also enables people to search for information easier and quicker via search engines, such as google. Quotes and brochures may be easily sent…

New technology is being introduced daily into the business world. In past employers I have seen several different communication trends used to express issues within the company. Some of my past employers have used personal digital assistants (PDAs), e-mail and text messaging, job flexibility, and team work (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). PDAs were an excellent way to let a person work from home if it is needed or they can be used for someone that is not in the office every day. E-mails became useful when the company had grown to larger numbers and were used as a way to order…

Technology plays a great part in the social implications of our modern world. Americans can hardly go a day without using the new technology and inventions. Science fiction is a thing of the past. Now we have cell phones, flat-screen T.V.’s, portable computers, video-games, the web, CT scans, antilock brakes, and more. If you compare a 1985 model car to its counterpart of today, you can see the improved and added features such as, power doors and windows, dual airbags, better fuel efficient engines, built in CD and GPS, air conditioner, and fewer defects (Nye, 2002). The modern economy today is knowledge based, globalized, entrepreneurial, IT-driven, and innovation-based (Atkinson, 2010). The forever changing forces, such as economic climate, fast paced, and challenging times is what the workplace is now. The office design has become smaller and simpler. The process of workplace technology has grown immensely. The reduction of the computer in size, weight and mobility requires less space and yet it stores more data, reducing the amount of paper being used (London Councils 2006). As more of the work…

Technology has given staff the opportunity to work from the comfort of their homes. Men and women no longer have to go in and work a normal 8 to 5. “I would imagine (the workplace) is going to be very flexible, something that allows both the employer and employee to move around, reconfigure, rearrange, re-team with very little technical difficulty and we are starting to see the beginning of that” (Barker-Benfield, 1997). Companies are becoming more organized and more individuals are working together in teams in cyberspace. Some of these people may never have the opportunity to meet one another. We’re all social butterflies and this is technology’s way of keeping us together. “Collaboration technology sprang up 20 years ago, but we kept acting, behaviorally, like we did when we were meeting face to face” (Burg,…

The progression of information technology and communications in the workplace has been gigantic over the past twenty years. The internet explosion has allowed people fingertip access to more information than previous generations had access to in entire lifetimes. The internet is what led to the creation of what is now the most-used means of communication in the modern workplace—email. In the past two decades, email has evolved from being a computer company exclusive to a communication tool no modern corporation would envision itself without. As stated by Kristie Lorette of Demand Media, “Email is widely used as a form of business communication and overall it is a highly effective communication tool. Email is inexpensive, only requiring an Internet connection that is generally already present in the business. Although a printout of emails is possible, emails often stay as soft copies because archiving and retrieving email communications is easy to do. From the CEO to the janitorial staff and even temporary employees of the business can send and receive email communications.”…
